About Montepulciano Run

Montepulciano Run is the premier running festival of the Valdichiana Senese: three days of races and walks through the vineyards of Vino Nobile, the rolling hills, and the historic center of Montepulciano. From the Lumediluna night urban trail to the classic La Nobile Corta and La Nobile Lunga races, and the Nobilipassi food and wine walk through the cellars, it is an event where sport meets landscape and wine culture, featuring scenic starts at the Tempio di San Biagio and finishes in Piazza Grande.

Running through history, nature, and Vino Nobile

The Montepulciano Run is one of Tuscany's most beloved running events: a long weekend of sport and conviviality that transforms the village of Montepulciano, in the heart of the Valdichiana Senese (Province of Siena), into a grand stage for runners, walkers, and lovers of the good life. Organized by A.S.D. La Chianina with the support of the Municipality of Montepulciano, the Province of Siena, and the Tuscany Region, the race combines high-level competitive events with non-competitive routes open to everyone, set amidst the vineyards that produce the celebrated Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

A three-day format

The formula is well-established and spans three days, from Friday to Sunday. It kicks off on Friday evening with the Lumediluna Urban Trail, an atmospheric night race of approximately 7 km through the historic center, to be tackled with a mandatory headlamp, in both competitive and non-competitive versions. Saturday is dedicated to the more social side of the event, with the Nobilipassi food and wine walk through the Vino Nobile cellars and the Mini MontepulcianoRun designed for children and families. Sunday is the highlight, featuring the long-distance races.

The flagship races: La Nobile Corta and La Nobile Lunga

The most anticipated moment is Sunday morning, starting from the monumental Tempio di San Biagio and finishing in Piazza Grande, the Renaissance square that crowns Montepulciano. The two competitive races are La Nobile Corta (approx. 15 km) and La Nobile Lunga (approx. 30 km), which wind through hills, clay landscapes, and vineyards, offering unique views of the Valdichiana. Alongside these, the non-competitive MontepulcianoOnFoot and Nordic Walking events allow participants to experience the same scenery at a walking pace.

Sport, wine, and territory

What makes the Montepulciano Run special is its deep bond with the territory: every edition celebrates the marriage of outdoor physical activity and Tuscan food and wine culture. The Nobilipassi walk, in particular, guides participants through historic cellars with tastings of Vino Nobile, while the final pasta party and the local products in the race packs complete the experience. It is an event that has captured the hearts of runners from all over Italy, attracting athletes of national and international renown.

Why participate

  • Spectacular routes through the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano vineyards
  • Races for every level: from night runs to long distances, and walks for everyone
  • Finish in the scenic Piazza Grande, in the heart of the historic center
  • Tastings, local products, and the convivial atmosphere typical of Tuscany
