Over the weekend of July 4-5, 2026, the municipality of Laives (Leifers), located in the province of Bolzano in the heart of the Bassa Atesina, became the capital of Italian youth cycling for two days, hosting the Italian Youth Road Cycling Championships for the Esordienti and Allievi categories. It was the first time the national event was held in Laives, the venue designated by the Italian Cycling Federation for the 2026 edition.
Six national jerseys up for grabs
The event featured six national champion jerseys, awarded in the first and second-year Esordienti and Allievi categories, both male and female. More than 760 young athletes representing the twenty regional committees of the Italian Cycling Federation took to the start line, making it one of the most attended youth events on the national calendar.
The two-day program
License verification and the technical meeting took place on Friday, July 3rd, at the Teatro Gino Coseri. Saturday, July 4th, was dedicated to the women's races: the first-year women's Esordienti opened the program at 9:00 AM, followed by the second-year women's Esordienti at 10:30 AM and the Allieve at 3:00 PM. In the evening, at 6:45 PM, the parade and presentation of the committees brought the streets of Laives to life.

Sunday, July 5th, was the turn of the men's categories, following the same schedule: presentation of the Esordienti teams at 8:20 AM, start of the first-year race at 9:00 AM over 35.4 km, second-year race at 10:30 AM over 53.2 km, presentation of the Allievi at 2:20 PM, start at 3:00 PM, and final awards ceremony around 5:45 PM, at the end of the 80.6 km long-distance race.
An event for the entire Bassa Atesina
Organized by Polisportiva Libertas Laives ASD, the two-day event involved the entire community of Laives and the Trentino-Alto Adige region, with a circuit laid out along the town's streets. All races were broadcast via live streaming, showcasing Italian youth cycling and the South Tyrolean territory to a national audience.

The national youth cycling event stopped for the first time in Laives (Bolzano) on July 4-5, 2026. How to get there
Laives (Leifers) is located a few kilometers south of Bolzano, along the Adige Valley. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brenner motorway (Bolzano Sud exit). By train, the reference station is Bolzano, connected to Laives by SASA urban and suburban bus services.
