A weekend of traditional masks, woodcarvers, and Alpine heritage at the Kulturhaus in Bronzolo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year in late September, the Kulturhaus in Bronzolo (Branzoll), located in the Bassa Atesina area near Bolzano, becomes a hub for Alpine folklore enthusiasts. The Krampus Flea Market and Mask Exhibition is a weekend entirely dedicated to the demonic figures that, according to Alpine tradition, accompany Saint Nicholas during the Advent season. The event is organized by the Göllerspitz Tuifl, the local Krampus group from Bronzolo, and has grown over the years to become a key regional appointment.
The heart of the event is the mask exhibition: over twenty Krampus associations from South Tyrol and surrounding areas showcase their creations, ranging from grotesque features to massive, intricately carved horns. Alongside the display, various woodcarvers work live, shaping traditional wooden masks and allowing visitors to witness a craft passed down through generations.
The exhibition is complemented by a themed flea market, featuring stalls filled with objects, accessories, clothing, and curiosities related to the world of the Krampus and folk traditions. It is the perfect opportunity to discover details, cowbells, chains, and other costume elements that make each group recognizable during the winter parades.
On Sunday morning, the Kulturhaus hosts the traditional Frühschoppen, the typical South Tyrolean morning social, roughly from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Various bands and DJs provide entertainment throughout the two days, ensuring a convivial atmosphere, with local gastronomic specialties completing the experience.
Admission is free, making the event suitable for families, curious visitors, and enthusiasts alike. The Mask Exhibition and Krampus Flea Market offer an authentic way to connect with the culture of the South Tyrolean Tuifl before the start of the parade season, which enlivens towns and cities across the Trentino-Alto Adige region between late November and December for the feast of Saint Nicholas.
The 2026 edition of the Krampus Flea Market and Mask Exhibition does not yet have confirmed dates. Historically, the event takes place in late September at the Kulturhaus in Bronzolo, in the province of Bolzano. The program is expected to feature the mask exhibition with over twenty associations, live woodcarving, the themed flea market, and the Sunday Frühschoppen with bands and DJs. Information will be updated as soon as the Göllerspitz Tuifl publish the official calendar.
