Every year, La Spezia celebrates the Republic Day with a grand evening in Piazza Europa, the large square in front of the Cathedral of Christ the King. Music, light shows, and fireworks draw thousands of people to the city centre, for one of the most heartfelt civil anniversaries in the city.
80 Years of the Republic and Women's Suffrage
In 2026, the celebration takes on a special meaning: it marks the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic's founding (1946-2026) and the first vote by women in Italy. For the occasion, the Municipality of La Spezia and the Liguria Region present the show "Italia Donna 1946-2026", a narrative through images, music, and lights dedicated to the evolution of women's rights and the role of women in Italian society.
Video Mapping, Lights, and Fireworks
The evening combines a female DJ set, a video mapping projected onto the Cathedral's facade retracing ten decades of Italian history, the immersive Sons et Lumières show, and a final pyromusical display synchronized in green, white, and red. A free event that transforms the heart of the Ligurian capital into a city-wide celebration.
Republic Day La Spezia — edition 2026
On June 2nd, 2026, Piazza Europa becomes the heart of the Republic Day celebration in La Spezia, with a show dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and women's first vote. The evening, presented by the Municipality and the Liguria Region, blends music, lights, and fireworks.
The highlight of the event is the video mapping "Italia Donna 1946-2026", which recounts ten decades of Italian history accompanied by symbolic songs of the evolution of women's rights.

June 2nd — Piazza Europa
- 8:30 PM — Female DJ set with Genoa-based DJ Ysabel
- 9:25 PM — Institutional speeches and the Italian national anthem "Inno di Mameli" performed by Sara Di Fusco
- 9:45 PM — Sons et Lumières, an immersive show of about 12 minutes on the facade of the Cathedral of Christ the King, featuring the video mapping "Italia Donna 1946-2026"
- 10:00 PM — Pyromusical show synchronized in green, white, and red
- Until midnight — Continuation of the DJ set and closing
In case of bad weather, the event may be postponed to the following day.
