Traditional costumes, dances, and folk music from Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, and the Aosta Valley in Cavour
In the village of Cavour, in the Province of Turin and at the foot of the striking Rocca that dominates the Pinerolo plains, the Interregional Folk Group Gathering is the premier event for folklore enthusiasts in North-West Italy. For an entire day, the town's streets and squares come alive with traditional costumes, music, and dance, turning Cavour into an open-air stage for the popular culture of Piedmont and its neighboring regions.
The gathering has a strong interregional focus, welcoming folk groups from Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, and the Aosta Valley, each showcasing their unique costumes, instruments, and repertoire of dances and songs. It is a precious opportunity for exchange between associations that share a passion for preserving the traditions, dances, music, and crafts of the past.
The event is organized by the folk group I Danzatori di Bram, founded in Cavour and dedicated to promoting traditional Piedmontese dances and costumes. The name references an ancient legend linked to the Rocca di Cavour, the town's landmark. The event typically features Ij Danseur dël Pilon and Ij Sonador dël Pilon, who are committed to researching and performing traditional folk dance, music, and song. The organization is supported by the Municipality of Cavour and the Piedmont Folkloric Association.
The day is structured around both visually stunning moments and social gatherings: the welcoming of the groups, the costumed parade through the town streets, the religious service, traditional dance performances in the square with official greetings, a communal lunch, and finally, a grand collective celebration with folk music and dancing. It is a family-friendly, free-entry event, perfect for those wanting to discover the most authentic soul of Piedmont.
Famous for its Rocca—a nature reserve and popular hiking destination—and its celebrated autumn apple festival, Cavour is a village that proudly preserves its traditions. The Interregional Folk Group Gathering is one of the most vibrant expressions of this identity, attracting enthusiasts and curious visitors from all over Piedmont and beyond.
