About Vocal Itineraries in Chianti

The International Choral Singing Festival "Vocal Itineraries in the Florentine and Sienese Chianti" is a traveling event that brings Italian and international choirs to perform every spring in the most evocative parish churches, chapels, and villages of the Chianti region. Between late May and mid-June, voices from all over Italy and abroad take turns in free concerts that celebrate the local heritage. In Castellina in Chianti, the event is hosted in the Church of the SS. Salvatore, where the local Schola Cantorum welcomes guest choirs.

A traveling festival in the heart of Chianti

The International Choral Singing Festival "Vocal Itineraries in the Florentine and Sienese Chianti" is one of the most beloved events of the Tuscan musical spring. Created to promote both choral singing and the discovery of the territory, the festival transforms Romanesque parish churches, country chapels, lemon houses, and castles into natural stages for voices from all over Italy and various European countries. The initiative is coordinated by the Association of Choral Coordination of the Florentine and Sienese Chianti, which brings together the historic choirs of the area and manages a calendar spread across several municipalities in the Chianti region, between the provinces of Siena and Florence, in Tuscany.

The Castellina in Chianti stop

Within the festival's program, Castellina in Chianti (Province of Siena) holds a special place: the concert takes place in the Church of the SS. Salvatore, in the town center, and features the Schola Cantorum of Castellina alongside Italian and foreign guest choirs. The intimate acoustics of the church and the atmosphere of the medieval village make this concert one of the most evocative moments of the entire event. As with all stops, admission is free, in keeping with the spirit of openness and sharing that drives the festival.

Italian and international choirs

Over the years, the festival has hosted hundreds of choral groups, including dozens of ensembles from abroad. Alongside the Chianti choirs, ensembles from various Italian regions and European cities perform in a musical dialogue that ranges from sacred polyphony to popular repertoire, from singer-songwriter pieces to the harmonies of gospel and vocal swing. Each evening offers an encounter between two or more choirs, showcasing different styles and traditions.

Music, territory, and solidarity

The festival is not just a musical event: it is also an opportunity to rediscover the heritage of Chianti, made up of parish churches, villas, and ancient chapels, and to affirm values of friendship between peoples. Recent editions have chosen strong themes, such as "Concerts for Peace", with pieces dedicated to peace among peoples included in every program. For those visiting Chianti in the spring, attending one or more stops of the Vocal Itineraries means combining the experience of the hilly landscape with the intimate and powerful one of live choral music.
