The theatre, dance, and performance festival at Castello Pasquini in Castiglioncello
For nearly thirty years, Inequilibrio Festival has transformed the Castello Pasquini in Castiglioncello and the medieval village of Rosignano Marittimo, on the Etruscan Coast in the province of Livorno, into one of Italy's most vibrant laboratories for theatre, dance, and performance. Organized by the Armunia Foundation, the event is much more than a simple festival: it is a true observatory for the contemporary scene, a place where the most innovative national companies meet young authors, performers, and emerging choreographers, with a special focus on artists under 35.
The 29th edition, scheduled from June 25 to July 4, 2026, revolves around the relationship between the visible and the invisible, placing female identity and the female body at the center. The performances address themes such as motherhood, power, rebellion, archetypes, disobedience, desire, and resistance: from the rites of the Amazons to the memories of female partisans. The program features over 50 events and more than 100 artists, including shows, national premieres, concerts, installations, workshops, and meetings.
The heart of the festival is Castello Pasquini, a 19th-century residence overlooking the pine forest and the sea of Castiglioncello, with its park and spaces hosting shows and installations. Added to this is the charm of the medieval village of Rosignano Marittimo, which hosts site-specific performances and participatory actions. The setting of the Livorno coastline, with its pine forests, cliffs, and Etruscan atmosphere, makes every evening an experience far removed from traditional indoor theatre programming.
Inequilibrio was born in the late 1990s as a space dedicated to scenic research and is now a reference point for professionals and performing arts enthusiasts from all over Italy. The Armunia Foundation works year-round as a center for artistic residencies and production, and the festival represents the public showcase of this ongoing commitment to supporting contemporary creation. The event is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Tuscany Region, and the Municipality of Rosignano Marittimo.
The 2026 edition of Inequilibrio Festival investigates the relationship between the visible and the invisible, placing female identity and the female body at the center. The ten shows on the bill, six of which are national premieres, address motherhood, power, rebellion, archetypes, disobedience, desire, and repression, from the rites of the Amazons to the resistance of female partisans. Alongside the shows, over 50 events including concerts, installations, meetings, and workshops, with a special look at talent under 35. The special section The David Corner pays tribute to the legacy of David Bowie.
