Christmas in the village of the Three Hills

"Il Natale più Bello nel Borgo più Bello" is the Christmas festival that enlivens the historic centre of Mondolfo every December. This town in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region, is part of the circuit of The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. The initiative is organised by Pro Loco Tre Colli Mondolfo APS and transforms the village's streets and squares — from Via XX Settembre to Piazza del Comune, from Piazza Borroni to Via Mazzini — into a large festive village designed for families and all generations.

The Biroccini, the village's craziest race

The most anticipated moment of the event is the allegorical and jovial competition of the Biroccini di Natale (Christmas Little Carts): a challenge between handcrafted carts that race down the slopes of the historic centre, curated by the Montananicò group of the Pro Loco. Prizes are awarded to the most beautiful cart, the fastest, and the most voted on social media, in a spirit of healthy rivalry among participants. The race is preceded by heats of the Xmas Race on a technical course and concludes with a final parade along the track.

Music, games, and Santa Claus

Alongside the biroccini, the programme includes games for children and adults, inflatables, entertainment, a square bocce tournament, and the eagerly awaited school concerts: children from the "P.G. Moretti" primary school and students from the "E. Fermi" middle school perform for the public. The arrival of Santa Claus is a must, welcomed by the group Gli Svalvolati, and the presence of Santa's house where children can leave their letters.

Flavours and festive atmosphere

Throughout the festival, a food stall is set up offering chestnuts, hot chocolate with biscuits, and mulled wine. These aromas accompany strolls among the village's illuminations and decorations. The event, with free admission, enhances Mondolfo's identity and its bond with the community, combining a modern reinterpretation of traditions with the spirit of friendship and collaboration that characterises the Pro Loco Tre Colli.

"Il Natale più Bello nel Borgo più Bello" is part of the broader calendar of Christmas initiatives in the Municipality of Mondolfo, which also involve the seaside fraction of Marotta. It's an opportunity to discover one of the most charming villages in the Marche during the most magical time of the year, filled with history, flavour, and fun for all ages.
