Fano's Christmas between markets, lights, and themed villages in the historic center
Every year, between late November and January 6th, Fano dons its festive attire and offers a Christmas calendar that uses the historic center as its stage. The project, promoted by the Municipality of Fano along with the Pro Loco and trade associations, transforms the city in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region, into a festive space designed primarily for families.
The hub of the initiatives is the Pincio, the area that opens onto the Arch of Augustus and Porta Maggiore. Here, the Christmas Village takes shape with Santa's House, where children can meet Santa Claus, write their letters, and participate in creative workshops. Next to it are the ice skating rink, the carousels, and the artisan markets, featuring quality local products.
The lighting of the fairy lights marks the start of the festive weeks that illuminate the city's streets and squares. One of the distinctive features of Fano's Christmas is its color scheme: alongside the traditional red, the city plays with shades of blue, light blue, and silver that evoke the sea and Fano's maritime soul. In the former Church of San Francesco, the nativity scene created by the Master Float Builders of the famous Carnival of Fano is set up, lending their papier-mรขchรฉ art to the Christmas celebration.
The program accompanies residents and tourists for over a month, with shows and entertainment on weekends in December. On December 31st, squares and streets host New Year's Eve in the square, with DJ sets, a collective toast, and fireworks. The festivities conclude on January 6th with the Epiphany Festival, dedicated to children with sweets, entertainment, and the arrival of the Befana. A journey that intertwines Christmas magic, tradition, and the identity of an Adriatic city that experiences Christmas as a grand shared event.
Fano's 2026-2027 Christmas is part of the city's established events calendar: from November 28, 2026, to January 6, 2027, the historic center will once again light up with fairy lights, markets, shows, and themed villages. The attractions that have made the event popular over the years are confirmed: the Christmas Village and Santa's House at the Pincio, the ice skating rink, the carousels, the artisan markets, as well as entertainment for children and the New Year's Eve in the square and Epiphany Festival events.
The detailed program for the 2026-2027 edition will be announced in the weeks preceding the start of the festivities and published on visitfano.info. The usual structure of the event includes the lighting of the fairy lights, the inauguration of the Christmas Village and the ice skating rink at the Pincio, the setup of the nativity scene by the Master Float Builders in the former Church of San Francesco, shows and workshops on weekends in December, New Year's Eve in the square on December 31st with DJ sets and fireworks, and the Epiphany Festival on January 6th.
