Three days of tradition, fair, and popular festival in the heart of Monte San Vito
Every year, in mid-June, Monte San Vito celebrates its patron saint with the Festa del Patrono San Vito, accompanied by the historic Fiera di San Vito. It is the highlight of the calendar for this hilltop village in the province of Ancona, in the Marche region, an event that for generations has drawn residents, former residents, and visitors from neighboring towns in the Esino valley.
The Fiera di San Vito has its origins in the area's agricultural tradition. In the past, the market fair was held in what the people of Monte San Vito still call in dialect 'l prร d'la fera, the fair meadow, corresponding to the current square in the heart of the historic center. Today, the event retains that popular spirit: for three days, the village streets are filled with stalls, exhibitors, and hobbyists, with free participation for street vendors and sellers.
The three-day event combines religious devotion with festive and convivial celebration. The typical program includes:
Monte San Vito is a small municipality of about 6,600 inhabitants perched on a hill overlooking the plain towards the Adriatic Sea. The first evidence of the castle dates back to 1053, and in 1177 Emperor Frederick Barbarossa placed it under his direct rule, removing it from the control of the Marquis of the Marca d'Ancona. Visiting the village during the Festa del Patrono means discovering a compact and authentic historic center, far from the major tourist flows, at the height of its most defining festival.
