The folk speed-down race on the roads of Moscheri, in Trambileno
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every summer, the hamlet of Moscheri in the municipality of Trambileno, Vallagarina, comes alive with I Careti delle Salette, a speed-down race that brings unique, engine-free, custom-built vehicles to the streets. Organized by US Trambileno, the event combines creativity, craftsmanship, and speed in a spectacular descent that attracts drivers, enthusiasts, and curious spectators from across the region and beyond.
The course spans approximately 950 meters with a vertical drop of about 110 meters, descending from the Salette area toward the village of Moscheri. It is considered a highly technical track, featuring curves and gradient changes that test both the vehicles and the drivers' skills. The "careti" are handcrafted carts—truly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces built by hand according to race regulations—that must meet precise technical requirements while leaving plenty of room for the builders' imagination.
The competition includes several categories, such as C4, C8, C9, C10, N5K, and the two-seater Folk category, designed to classify vehicles based on their characteristics and the number of occupants. Following its 2024 debut, the event joined the 1st UISP Northern Italy Folkloristic Championship, a discipline that celebrates the popular traditions of "cart racing" and non-motorized vehicles.
I Careti delle Salette is more than just a race: it is a festive moment for the entire Trambileno community, drawing large crowds along the track and creating an atmosphere that blends sporting competition, local spirit, and a passion for craftsmanship. The starting line features both expert drivers, often traveling from outside the region, and local builders who showcase their creativity and mastery in shaping original vehicles.
Nestled at the foot of Mount Pasubio, Trambileno is a small municipality in the province of Trento, in Trentino-Alto Adige, immersed in a mountain landscape rich in history and nature. The hamlet of Moscheri provides the perfect backdrop for this summer event, which has quickly become one of the most anticipated and characteristic highlights of the Vallagarina valley, perfectly marrying the charm of the Alpine landscape with the energy of a competition that is as unusual as it is engaging.
Following the 2024 and 2025 editions, I Careti delle Salette returns to Trambileno with a new edition of the speed-down race in the hamlet of Moscheri. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by US Trambileno: in previous seasons, the event was held during the summer, between late July and late August. The program with times, categories, and registration procedures will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
Trambileno can be reached by car from Rovereto. Take the Rovereto Sud/Lago di Garda Nord exit on the A22 Brenner motorway and follow the signs for Vallarsa and Trambileno. The race takes place in the hamlet of Moscheri.
Organized by US Trambileno. For information regarding dates, registration, and the program, please contact +39 379 1320997 (also available via WhatsApp and Telegram) or email [email protected].
This is an outdoor event along a downhill course: we recommend following the organizers' instructions for safe viewing points and wearing comfortable clothing suitable for a mountain environment.
