The Ferragosto patronal feast in Villa Lagarina, Vallagarina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Assunta Festival is the patronal feast of Villa Lagarina, a charming village in the Vallagarina valley, just a few kilometers from Rovereto in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, the town's patron saint, the event returns every year around Ferragosto, transforming the historic center into a hub of faith, community, and celebration. With free admission and an intimate atmosphere, it is a beloved appointment for both locals and visitors passing through the valley.
The beating heart of the festival is the Pro Loco Villa Lagarina, which coordinates the event with the dedication of over seventy young volunteers active in the kitchens, hospitality, and activity planning. This collective effort gives the festival an authentic, community-driven character, far removed from large commercial fairs. The event is also designed with environmental awareness in mind: the kitchens are completely plastic-free.
The program weaves together spiritual moments and cultural offerings. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta hosts masses, the rosary, spiritual concerts, and guided tours of the organ and the nearby Chapel of San Ruperto. There are also art exhibitions set up in the village's historic palaces, including Palazzo Libera and Palazzo Todeschi, as well as visits to the Diocesan Museum. The most significant moment is August 15th, the day of the Assumption, featuring a solemn mass and a procession through the town streets.
Every evening from 6:30 PM, the kitchens open, serving traditional Trentino flavors: from tortel de patate to vegan options and a selection of desserts. The evenings continue with live music and DJ sets in the courtyards and parks of the center, such as Parco di Palazzo Gonzaga and Parco dei Sorrisi, creating a festive atmosphere suitable for all ages.
The Assunta Festival reserves plenty of space for families: painting workshops for children, playful courses like the Ninja Warriors, and outdoor activities make the event a perfect destination for both young and old, centered on fun and tradition.
The festival is traditionally held around Ferragosto, with the main days occurring between August 13th and 15th. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced; for updated information, it is best to follow the Pro Loco Villa Lagarina channels.
