The most delicious mountain aperitif of the winter, nestled in the Pale di San Martino
HappyCheese is the most delicious mountain aperitif of the winter, now a staple of the snow-food scene in the Dolomites. It takes place in San Martino di Castrozza, in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza (Trento), and is promoted by the Strada dei Formaggi delle Dolomiti in collaboration with the local tourist board. The formula is simple and successful: the finest locally sourced cheeses from the Caseificio di Primiero are reimagined by chefs into delightful cicchetti and paired with Trentino wines, Trentodoc sparkling wines, and craft beers, all while gazing at the jagged peaks of the Pale di San Martino.
The true stars are the authentic cheeses from the Caseificio di Primiero, from Tosèla to Fontal, presented in gourmet versions and accompanied by a selection of Trentino labels—in the San Martino di Castrozza edition, wines from the Cantina Gottardi—alongside Trentodoc sparkling wines and local craft beers. Typical products like Trentino apples are also featured, creating a tasting board that tells the story of the gastronomic identity of the Fiemme, Fassa, and Primiero valleys.
What makes HappyCheese special is the setting: tastings are held in high-altitude mountain huts, on ski slopes, and on panoramic terraces, often at sunset when the light illuminates the Pale di San Martino. At several stops, the aperitif is accompanied by live music from the Dolomiti Ski Jazz festival, creating a perfect blend of flavors and sounds that enhances the Dolomite après-ski experience.
HappyCheese is part of a circuit involving the Fiemme, Fassa, and Primiero valleys along the Strada dei Formaggi delle Dolomiti, with events held throughout the winter season. In San Martino di Castrozza, the event is hosted at Lo Sky Cafè, a meeting point for mountain lovers and food enthusiasts within the Dolomiti Superski area.
A perfect opportunity to combine a day on the snow with an authentic culinary experience in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige.
For the 2026 edition, the San Martino di Castrozza event took place on Saturday, March 7, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Lo Sky Cafè. The stars were the locally sourced cheeses from the Caseificio di Primiero, transformed by the chef into delicious cicchetti and paired with Trentino wines from Cantina Gottardi, Trentodoc bubbles, and local apples.
The event was part of the winter circuit of the Strada dei Formaggi delle Dolomiti, with stops spread across the Fiemme, Fassa, and Primiero valleys and high-altitude tastings in mountain huts overlooking the Dolomites.
San Martino di Castrozza can be reached by car from Trento and Valsugana via the SS47 and SS50 roads. The nearest train station is in Feltre (Belluno), which is connected by bus. The closest airports are Venice and Verona.
The aperitif is held at Lo Sky Cafè in San Martino di Castrozza in the late afternoon. For specific dates, times, mountain hut locations, and ticket information, please check the local tourist board website and the Strada dei Formaggi delle Dolomiti channels.
We recommend booking hotels and mountain huts in advance during peak season weekends. Warm clothing is advised for high-altitude sunset tastings.
