Author jazz on the stage of the Ruggeri Theatre, between Crossroads and great soloists
The Guastalla Jazz Festival is the event that, for years, has brought some of the most interesting Italian and international jazz names to the Municipality of Guastalla, in the province of Reggio Emilia and in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Its home is the Teatro Comunale Ruggero Ruggeri, a city jewel named after the famous actor from Guastalla, where the intimate acoustics and elegant atmosphere enhance the listening experience of the concerts.
The festival's winter program intertwines with Crossroads – Jazz and more in Emilia-Romagna, the historic regional circuit organized by Jazz Network that every year travels through dozens of cities in Emilia-Romagna with a packed concert schedule. Thanks to this collaboration, the Ruggeri Theatre hosts special projects and premieres, while in the summer, the festival moves outdoors, to the main square, with its Summer Edition under the Guastalla summer lights.
The Guastalla Jazz Festival's program bravely spans different styles: from the most classic acoustic jazz to fusions with pop and singer-songwriter music, from tributes to the great masters of the 20th century to contemporary reinterpretations. A choice that reflects the festival's dual vocation: preserving tradition and, at the same time, making space for research and new generations of musicians.
Overlooking the right bank of the Po River, Guastalla retains a historic center with a ducal layout, featuring elegant squares and palaces that tell the story of the city's Gonzaga past. Experiencing the festival also means discovering this corner of the Bassa Reggiana, where musical culture dialogues with a historical and landscape heritage of great charm.
For the 2026 edition, the Guastalla Jazz Festival brought two high-caliber events to the Ruggeri Theatre, part of the Crossroads 2026 program. On March 24th, Daniele Sepe took the stage with the "Sepè le Mokò" project, dedicated to the music from Totò's films, featuring composers like Piero Piccioni, Armando Trovajoli, and Carlo Rustichelli. On April 8th, it was the turn of the Roberto Gatto Quartet feat. Pietro Tonolo with "Around Miles & Trane," a sonic journey that reinterpreted the legacy of Miles Davis and John Coltrane with a contemporary perspective, marking the centenary of the birth of these two masters.
