Theatre, music, and performance along the Po River in Luzzara
Argini Festival is a new cultural project spread across the region, promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region and curated by ATER Fondazione in collaboration with the Teatro Sociale Gualtieri. The festival transforms the course of the Po River into an open-air stage, crossing the riverside villages between the Reggio and Parma areas: after its inauguration in Boretto, the festival arrives in Luzzara, a municipality in the Province of Reggio Emilia overlooking the great river.
The Luzzara stop takes place throughout Saturday, June 20, 2026, and connects the symbolic locations of the town: Lido Po with its River Park, the space of La Baia, and the central Piazza Adolfo Tedeschi, in front of the Teatro Sociale. The audience will be guided from the river's edge to the village square, on a path that intertwines installation, concert, and narrative theatre.
The program alternates different languages and is aimed at all ages. The performance installation La dinamica del controvento (The Dynamics of the Headwind) by Teatro Necessario, conceived as a musical carousel between a suspended piano and a flying carpet, will be at Lido Po; the free concert by Krano will feature folk-country and blues sounds sung in dialect; the evening will conclude with Andrea Pennacchi and his eco-narrative ballad, a reflection on the relationship between humans and nature, particularly suited for a festival born to tell the story of the river.
Luzzara has always been a place linked to art and the memory of the Po River: here Cesare Zavattini promoted the famous Premio Nazionale Arti Naive (National Award for Naive Art), and the village retains a strong riverside identity. Argini Festival fits naturally into this context, offering the inhabitants of Emilia-Romagna and visitors a day of free or affordably priced performances, outdoors, in the heart of the Bassa Reggiana region.
The Luzzara stop of Argini Festival, on Saturday, June 20, 2026, follows the opening in Boretto and precedes the events in Gualtieri, Sorbolo Mezzani, and Guastalla. In Luzzara, in the province of Reggio Emilia, the festival chooses three different locations in the town to guide the audience from the Po's bank to the central square, alternating installation, live music, and narrative theatre.
Luzzara can be reached by car via the SS62 della Cisa or the A22 Brennero motorway (exit at Pegognaga, in the province of Mantua). By train, the nearest station is Suzzara, on the Parma-Suzzara line, with connections to Luzzara.
The events take place at Lido Po and La Baia, along the river, and in Piazza Adolfo Tedeschi in the town center, in front of the Teatro Sociale.
Several events are free, while for paid performances, the festival offers popular prices. For the program, schedules, and advance ticket sales, please refer to the official ATER Fondazione website and dedicated contacts: e-mail [email protected], telephone and WhatsApp +39 334 6555826.
