The grand summer White Night in the 'Terrace of Abruzzo' village
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Guardiagrele White Night is one of the most important and eagerly awaited events of the summer in this Abruzzo village. For one night, the historic center of Guardiagrele, in the province of Chieti, closes to traffic and fills with music, lights, shows, and local flavors, lasting from the early evening until the first light of dawn. It is the festival that best captures the soul of this village, blending artisan tradition, fine cuisine, and a vibrant community spirit.
Guardiagrele stands at an altitude of about 576 meters on the eastern slopes of the Majella and serves as a gateway to the Majella National Park. The poet Gabriele d'Annunzio dubbed it the Terrace of Abruzzo for the extraordinary panoramic views of the mountains and valleys that open up from various points in the town. Listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy), the city is famous for its wrought iron, copper, and goldsmithing traditions—a heritage that comes to life during the festival through various stalls and open workshops.
During the White Night, every corner of the historic center comes to life. From Largo Garibaldi, the heart of the event, food and wine stalls are spread along Via Roma, Via Tripio, Piazza San Francesco, Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, and other village streets. Visitors can enjoy:
Over the years, the White Night has hosted free concerts by prominent artists from the Italian music scene, including Subsonica in 2019, Afterhours in 2016, and Morgan from Bluvertigo in 2015, all performing in Largo Garibaldi before thousands of spectators. This focus on high-quality live music has made the event a benchmark for the summer, not just for Guardiagrele, but for the entire Chieti province.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Guardiagrele in collaboration with the municipal administration and local businesses. To facilitate the influx of visitors, shuttle buses are provided from parking areas to the historic center, which remains closed to cars for the duration of the evening.
The Guardiagrele White Night returns in summer 2026 to the historic center of Guardiagrele, in the province of Chieti. The official dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been communicated: over the years, the event has been held around Ferragosto, animating the village from evening until dawn with live music, shows, crafts, and food stalls. For updates on dates, times, and guests, we recommend following the official channels of the Pro Loco Guardiagrele and the municipal administration.
Guardiagrele is located in the province of Chieti, on the eastern side of the Majella. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Pescara Sud-Francavilla or Ortona exits) or the A25, continuing inland along the valley floor. The nearest train stations are in Chieti or Pescara, which are connected to the town by bus services.
During the White Night, the historic center is closed to traffic. Peripheral parking areas are set up (near the cemetery, the former Molino Alimonti, Via Anello, and commercial zones) with a free shuttle bus service to the center.
Admission is free. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for walking through the village's uphill streets. For updated dates and programs, please refer to the official channels of the Pro Loco Guardiagrele and the Municipality.
