About Valle di Casies Farmers' and Artisans' Market

The Gsieser Bauern- und Handwerksmarkt is the traditional farmers' and artisans' market of the Valle di Casies in South Tyrol. On selected Friday mornings throughout the summer, the village center of San Martino comes alive with stalls from local farms and small-scale artisans: honey, speck, organic goat cheese, eggs, homemade jams, fresh raspberries, as well as ceramics, woodwork, textiles, and herbal products. On special dates, visitors can also enjoy freshly fried Strauben prepared by the local farmers.

The Farmers' Market of Valle di Casies

The Gsieser Bauern- und Handwerksmarkt is the summer showcase for authentic local produce and craftsmanship in the Valle di Casies (Gsiesertal), one of the most genuine and tranquil side valleys of the Upper Puster Valley in the province of Bolzano. On selected Fridays between late June and early September, the center of San Martino (St. Martin) transforms into an open-air market where local farms and small artisans display their own products directly.

Local Produce and Traditional Crafts

The market focuses entirely on short supply chains and quality: everything is sourced directly from the valley's farms. Among the stalls, you will find the most authentic flavors of the South Tyrolean mountains:

  • Organic goat cheese, mountain honey, and farm-fresh dairy products
  • Speck, cured meats, and sausages prepared according to tradition
  • Eggs, pasta, organic flours, and homemade jams
  • Fresh raspberries and raspberry-based products, juices, and syrups
  • Mountain herbal products and infusions

Alongside the gourmet offerings, there is space for craftsmanship: hand-molded ceramics, wooden objects, textiles and home linens, felt items, gift ideas, and handmade children's clothing. It is the perfect opportunity to take home an authentic souvenir of the valley.

Freshly Fried Strauben

On select dates, the market is filled with the scent of Strauben, the typical spiral-shaped fried pastries of South Tyrolean peasant cuisine, prepared on the spot by the women of Casies. Another great reason to plan your visit on one of these days.

An Experience in the Heart of the Dolomites

Popular with both locals and holidaymakers, the Gsieser Bauern- und Handwerksmarkt is much more than just a market: it is a way to get to know the rural culture of the Valle di Casies and the deep bond between this corner of Trentino-South Tyrol and its mountains. The market takes place in the morning, from approximately 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the village center; in case of bad weather, the event moves to the Interessentschaftshütte Ribisen mountain hut. Admission is free.
