The Val Casies Hay Barn Festival

The Gsiesa Heistodlfest (German for "Hay Barn Festival") is one of the most cherished traditions in the Val Casies/Gsiesertal, nestled in the heart of the Puster Valley, in the province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). Organized by the Gsieser Natur- & Kulturverein in collaboration with local rural youth and women's associations, the event celebrates the ancient customs and heritage of mountain farming at the end of every summer.

Where and When

The festival takes place in San Martino/St. Martin, a village in the municipality of Valle di Casies/Gsies, at the Interessentschaftshütte Ribisen festival barn along the Gsieserstraße. Traditionally held on a late August evening, the festivities kick off at 6:00 PM and continue late into the night with hearty food and music.

Rustic Cuisine and Atmosphere

At the heart of the event is South Tyrolean farmhouse cuisine: wholesome, hearty specialties prepared according to age-old recipes and served in the convivial setting of the barn.
