International jazz in the Maremma region comes to the Chiostro di San Francesco
The Grey Cat Jazz Festival is one of Tuscany's longest-running and most beloved jazz events. Founded in the early eighties, it has transformed the Maremma into a vast, sprawling stage that lights up villages, fortresses, mines, and cloisters every summer with music from the greatest protagonists of Italian and international jazz. Organized by the Music Pool Association under the artistic direction of Stefano "Cocco" Cantini, the festival takes place in several municipalities, including Suvereto, a refined medieval village in the province of Livorno, on the Tuscan coast.
In Suvereto, the festival chooses one of the town's most evocative settings: the Chiostro di San Francesco, a space of great architectural and acoustic charm in the heart of the historic center. The Suvereto evening is part of the Grey Cat's widespread program, which, over the course of a few weeks, brings dozens of concerts to Follonica, Scarlino, Gavorrano, Massa Marittima, Castiglione della Pescaia, Monterotondo Marittimo, and other municipalities in the Maremma area of Grosseto and Livorno.
Grey Cat has always been a point of reference for jazz enthusiasts. Its editions have featured some of the most important names on the scene, from Paolo Fresu to Danilo Rea, and from Rita Marcotulli to world-class musicians. The program alternates projects by great Italian masters with more intimate and experimental offerings, with a particular focus on Mediterranean music and jazz-infused interpretations of singer-songwriter classics.
The Suvereto stage is the ideal opportunity to combine a holiday in the Maremma with an evening of great music, in an intimate atmosphere far from the large city stages.
The 46th edition of the Grey Cat Jazz Festival takes place from July 28 to August 19, 2026, among the villages and castles of the Maremma, under the artistic direction of Stefano "Cocco" Cantini and organized by the Music Pool Association. The program touches numerous municipalities in the Grosseto and Livorno areas, including Follonica, Scarlino, Gavorrano, Massa Marittima, Monterotondo Marittimo, and Suvereto.
Among the major protagonists announced for the 2026 edition are trumpeter Paolo Fresu with the P.A.F. Trio and Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, in a program rich in special projects and original music. In Suvereto, the festival brings its intimate atmosphere to the Chiostro di San Francesco.
The Grey Cat Festival arrives in Suvereto on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Chiostro di San Francesco, with the project "E se domani" featuring Stefania Tallini on piano and Franco Piana on flugelhorn.
The Suvereto evening is part of a widespread program that, from July 28 to August 19, 2026, distributes concerts across numerous Maremma municipalities. Among the headliners of the edition:
The full program, with dates and locations for all evenings, is available on the official channels of the Music Pool Association and for pre-sale on TicketOne.
Suvereto is located inland from the Etruscan Coast, in the province of Livorno. By car, it can be reached via the SS1 Aurelia (Venturina-Suvereto exit), then following signs for the historic center. The nearest train station is Campiglia Marittima, on the Tyrrhenian line, which is connected to the village by bus services.
Grey Cat Festival concerts are ticketed, with prices starting from approximately €13.50 depending on the event. Advance tickets are available on TicketOne and through the Music Pool Association channels.
The Chiostro di San Francesco is an intimate space: we recommend arriving a little early. Take advantage of the evening to dine in one of the local restaurants in the historic center and discover the Val di Cornia DOC wines produced in the area.
