A Granfondo in the Heart of Imola

The Granfondo Tozzona Città di Imola is now a fixed event on the spring cycling calendar of Emilia-Romagna. Organized by the Gruppo Ciclistico La Tozzona of Imola, which has been running the event since 2017, the race takes place in the municipality of Imola, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, starting and finishing at the Centro Sociale La Tozzona on Via Punta 24.

It is a non-competitive cycling tour: there is no overall winner classification like in a road race, but a collective ride designed for those who love to clock up miles in company, challenging themselves on the climbs of the Bologna Apennines without the pressure of the stopwatch. This is the formula that has seen the number of participants grow year after year.

Routes Through Hills and Badlands

The strength of the Tozzona lies in the variety of its routes, allowing cyclists of all levels to find their ideal distance. The roads wind through the hilly landscape south of Imola, along the Santerno valley and through the characteristic clay badlands, with routes ranging from easy rides to challenging climbs:

• Long Route — approximately 138 km with over 2,300 meters of elevation gain, for the fittest
• Medium Route — around 98-100 km and about 1,350 meters of elevation gain
• Short Routes — 66-70 km with moderate elevation gain, ideal for those seeking a more relaxed ride
• Cycling Tour — a short loop of about 52 km, also suitable for those new to long distances
• Gravel/MTB/e-bike Route — a dedicated route of about 70 km for those who prefer off-road

An Event of the Romagnolo Circuit

The Granfondo Tozzona is part of the Circuito Romagnolo, the calendar that brings together the main cycling events in Romagna and the Imola region. Being part of the circuit means that many participants follow the Tozzona as a stage in a larger journey, in an atmosphere of healthy amateur competition and strong group spirit.

Imola, a city inextricably linked to cycling and motorsport thanks to the renowned Enzo e Dino Ferrari Racetrack, provides an ideal setting for the event: a territory that thrives on passion for two wheels and warmly welcomes cyclists from all over Emilia-Romagna and neighboring regions every spring.
