The mountain bike granfondo on the Apennines of Bagno di Romagna
The Granfondo Romagna is a mountain bike event held in Bagno di Romagna, a spa town in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 2024, in just a few editions it has become a reference point in the region's MTB calendar, attracting hundreds of participants each year, including racers, cycle tourists, gravel riders, and families.
Organized by Bike-Advisor ASD with the support of ASD Comero Bike, the Pro Loco of Bagno di Romagna, and the patronage of the Municipality, the race takes place along the trails and forest roads of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines, amidst panoramic ridges, beech woods, and trails descending towards the Savio river valley.
The strength of the Granfondo Romagna lies in its multiple offerings, designed to welcome both those seeking a competitive challenge and those who simply want to ride immersed in nature:
The Granfondo Romagna is not just about competition; the headquarters at the Terme Sant'Agnese becomes the meeting point for the entire off-road community for a weekend. Saturday includes official reconnaissance and training rides, while on Sunday, after the finish, the event concludes with a hearty pasta party and awards ceremony, in a festive atmosphere that involves athletes, companions, and residents of Bagno di Romagna.
The event fully enhances the identity of a territory known for its thermal waters and the natural heritage of the Casentinesi Forests National Park, offering bikers unique landscapes and typically Romagnol hospitality.
Over the years, the Granfondo Romagna has joined the main Italian off-road circuits, hosting a stage of the Tour3Regioni and races valid for the FCI federal calendar, even welcoming Elite and Under 23 categories. This is a recognition of the technical level of the routes and the organizational quality, making this event in Bagno di Romagna one of the most beloved mountain bike granfondos in the Apennines.
The 2026 edition of the Granfondo Romagna confirmed the growth of the Bagno di Romagna event, with around 500 participants and, for the first time, the opening to Elite and Under 23 categories. The race was valid as the third stage of the Tour3Regioni and as a round of the FCI regional championship.
The main technical novelty concerned the descent from the Mountain Grand Prix: abandoning the Ridracoli mule track and the Devil's Tooth, a new, smoother track towards Monte Frullo was introduced, leading to the panoramic ridge of Rio Petroso. The day concluded with the usual pasta party at the Sant'Agnese Thermal Baths park.
First year with Elite categories competing. Men's victory by Giuseppe Panariello (NEB18 Factory Team) in 1:49:35 and women's win by Martina Zoli (ASD Bikefan) in 2:32:47. Over 40 Elite and Under 23 riders, 300 amateur racers, 70 gravel riders, 60 cycle tourists, and the family ride.
Bagno di Romagna can be reached by car from the E45 (Cesena-Rome), exit Bagno di Romagna/Verghereto. By train, the reference station is Cesena, then connected by bus. The meeting point and start area are at the Sant'Agnese Thermal Baths park, in Via Lungo Savio.
Registration is done online via the official Bike-Advisor website, with fees increasing as the date approaches (starting from around €25 for racers and €15 for cycle tourists, gravel, and family). A valid competitive medical certificate is required for competitive races. 50% discount on registration for those who choose the hotel package.
Starts take place in the morning (gravel around 9:15 AM, granfondo at 9:30 AM) with bib collection on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The day concludes with a pasta party and awards ceremony in the early afternoon.
