The mountain bike granfondo on the trails of the Monte Argentario promontory
The Granfondo dell'Argentario MTB is the mountain bike event that brings the Monte Argentario promontory to life every year in late March, located in the Province of Grosseto, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. Starting from the Lungomare dei Navigatori in Porto Santo Stefano, the race attracts hundreds of enthusiasts from all over Tuscany and neighboring regions, drawn by one of the most spectacular tracks on the regional calendar.
The route winds along trails that embrace the entire Argentario promontory, reaching heights of up to 635 meters. It features a mix of challenging climbs, technical descents, and single tracks immersed in Mediterranean scrub, with constant glimpses of the sea, the Tuscan Archipelago, the Uccellina Mountains, and the Orbetello lagoon. It is a varied and complete track that tests both legs and riding technique.
The event offers two participation options:
The granfondo is part of important regional circuits such as the Coppa Toscana MTB and the Circuito MTB Maremma Tosco-Laziale, making it a highly anticipated stop for competitive riders.
The event is about more than just competition: the weekend features bib collection on Saturday afternoon and, after the finish on Sunday, the traditional pasta party and category awards ceremony, in a convivial atmosphere that brings together athletes, families, and spectators on the Porto Santo Stefano waterfront.
Organized by the Gruppo Ciclistico Monte Argentario, the granfondo is now a well-established tradition that combines sport, nature, and local promotion. Riding on the Argentario means discovering one of the most evocative landscapes of the Tuscan coast from a privileged vantage point, where the Mediterranean scrub meets the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The nineteenth edition was held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with the start at 9:30 AM from the Lungomare dei Navigatori in Porto Santo Stefano. The day before, Saturday, March 28, was dedicated to bib collection (from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM) and entertainment for children.
The race, valid for the Coppa Toscana MTB and the Circuito MTB Maremma Tosco-Laziale, attracted approximately 800 participants.
From 12:30 PM, there was space for the traditional pasta party and category awards on the waterfront, closing a day of sport and celebration in the Municipality of Monte Argentario.
