Three days dedicated to the panuozzo, the iconic product of Gragnano
The Gragnano Panuozzo Festival is a food and wine event that, every year at the start of summer, pays tribute to the most iconic product of this town in the province of Naples, nestled at the foot of the Lattari Mountains. The panuozzo is an elongated sandwich made from pizza dough, baked in a wood-fired oven, sliced in half, and filled while hot. Born in Gragnano in the 1980s, it has become a gastronomic symbol of Campania in just a few decades, standing alongside Gragnano PGI pasta and mozzarella.
For three days, the central Via Quarantola turns into a vast culinary trail: historic Gragnano wood-fired ovens line up their stalls, serving hot panuozzi in many varieties, from the most classic to the most creative. Among the most beloved fillings are rolled pancetta and smoked provola cheese, sausage with friarielli, and eggplant with provola and local fiordilatte. The 2026 edition also introduced a sweet novelty: the Sorrento lemon tart. A gluten-free station is also available for those with celiac disease.
The festival is more than just food: throughout the evenings, groups playing traditional Campanian music, street performers, shows, and DJ sets animate the night. For families with children, the Panuozzo Land play area is set up with creative workshops and dedicated staff, while gastronomic storytelling spaces share the history and preparation of this product.
The recent edition adopted a plastic-free approach: panuozzi are served in paper bags with napkins, minimizing plastic use. Accompanying the panuozzi is Gragnano DOC, the characteristic sparkling red wine of the Sorrento Peninsula, offered for tasting by the Sorrento Peninsula Producers Consortium in pairing with the event's dishes.
Organized by the Gragnano Panuozzo Producers Association with the patronage of the Campania Region and the Municipality of Gragnano, the festival is a highly anticipated, free event capable of attracting tens of thousands of visitors. It is an opportunity to discover the authenticity of a protected product and, at the same time, to experience the atmosphere of a community that takes pride in its gastronomic tradition.
The 2026 edition of the Gragnano Panuozzo Festival was held from June 21 to 23 along Via Quarantola, confirming its status as one of the most anticipated food and wine events in the province of Naples. The event focused strongly on sustainability, adopting a plastic-free formula with panuozzi served in paper bags and napkins.
Thirteen producers brought the culinary trail to life with their wood-fired ovens, accompanied by a gluten-free station. Accompanying the panuozzi were tastings of Gragnano DOC provided by the Sorrento Peninsula Producers Consortium, while the Sorrento lemon tart appeared as a new addition.
For three evenings, starting at 6:30 PM, Via Quarantola transformed into a grand culinary trail animated by the wood-fired ovens of Gragnano producers.
Throughout all days: stalls from thirteen producers, a gluten-free station, Gragnano DOC tastings, and the new Sorrento lemon tart.
Gragnano can be reached by car via the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway (Castellammare di Stabia exit) and by train via the Circumvesuviana line. The event takes place on Via Quarantola, in the town center.
Stands open at 6:30 PM. Admission to the event is free. Food is purchased via special tickets sold at the event's cash desks, to be exchanged at the ovens; it is recommended to bring small-denomination cash.
To avoid queues, it is best to arrive at opening time; crowds are larger after 9:00 PM. A gluten-free station and the Panuozzo Land children's area are available.
