About GP Villata

The GP Villata is an amateur road cycling race included in the ACSI Piedmont calendar and organized by the ASD Bike Team A Ruota Libera. It takes place in the municipality of Villata, in the province of Vercelli, on an 11 km flat circuit that winds through the rice-growing countryside between Villata and Casalvolone, to be repeated several times. A day of popular sport that attracts enthusiasts from the Gentleman, Senior, Veteran, and Junior categories from all over Piedmont, with the meeting point, registration, and staggered starts at the Bar Croce Bianca.

A spring classic of Piedmontese amateur cycling

The GP Villata is one of the most popular road races in the amateur cycling scene of the province of Vercelli. Organized by the ASD Bike Team A Ruota Libera under the aegis of the sports promotion body ACSI, the race takes place in the Municipality of Villata, a small town in the Vercelli rice plains, in the heart of Piedmont. Although it is a non-professional competition, the GP Villata attracts licensed cyclists from various clubs in the region and is a fixed appointment at the start of the season.

The route

The race is held on a completely flat 11 km circuit, to be repeated six times for a total of approximately 66 kilometers. The track winds along the country roads connecting Villata and the nearby Casalvolone, amidst the rice fields typical of the Vercelli landscape. The absence of climbs favors high average speeds and sprint finishes, making the race spectacular and well-suited for rouleurs and sprinters.

Categories and format

The GP Villata is open to amateurs of various categories, with staggered starts throughout the day. The meeting point is at the Bar Croce Bianca at Largo Marconi 6, the reference point for registration and preliminary operations. The heats include the Senior Gentleman (SgA, SgB, SgC) and women's categories, followed by Debuttanti, Junior, Senior, and Veterans, ensuring space for both young riders and more experienced amateurs.

Sport and territory

More than just a competition, the GP Villata is a moment of gathering for the local community and the world of Piedmontese amateur cycling. The event helps to promote the Bassa Vercellese territory and its roads, which are ideal for cycling thanks to their flat terrain. The commitment of the ASD Bike Team A Ruota Libera, which has been active for years in organizing races in the Vercelli area, keeps a deeply rooted local sporting tradition alive.
