The celebration of the true clam in the heart of the Po Delta
Goro is a small municipality of just over three thousand inhabitants overlooking the Sacca di Goro, one of the most important lagoons in the Po Delta, in the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna. Here, fishing and aquaculture are not just a job: they are the very identity of the town. Goro is indeed the leading Italian and European producer of true clams (Ruditapes philippinarum), a record of which the community is rightly proud. The Clam Festival was created precisely to celebrate this link between land, water, and table, and is today one of the most recognized seafood festivals on the entire Emilia-Romagna coast.
The event takes place over three weekends in July on Piazzale Natale Bellotti, in the port area. Under the covered stands, the cooks from the Pro Loco and local cooperatives prepare fresh dishes based on lagoon catches every evening. The absolute protagonist is, of course, the true clam, served in spaghetti with clams and strozzapreti with marinara sauce, but the menu ranges across all Adriatic seafood.
The most spectacular moment is the cooking in the giant pan almost three meters in diameter, capable of preparing quintals of clams and serving over a thousand portions a day thanks to the work of about twenty local cooperatives.
Every evening, the festival is accompanied by live music and entertainment for all ages, in a popular and family-friendly atmosphere typical of Delta village festivals. The real added value, however, are the boat trips in the Sacca di Goro: short excursions that take visitors among the clam farms, to discover firsthand how the product they enjoy at the table is produced. An experience that combines gastronomy, nature, and knowledge of the territory, in one of the most evocative corners of the Po Delta Park.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Goro, the festival attracts thousands of visitors every year from all over the province of Ferrara and beyond, attracted by the authenticity of zero-kilometer catches and affordable prices. It is the perfect opportunity to combine an evening of good seafood with a discovery of the Emilia-Romagna lagoon landscape, among fishing boats, traditional huts, and sunsets over the water.
The 2026 edition confirms the traditional format over three consecutive weekends in July, from the 10th to the 26th, with the covered stands at Piazzale Natale Bellotti open from late afternoon to evening. The dates are confirmed by the official event registry of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
This year again, the protagonists are the true clam from the Sacca di Goro, spaghetti with clams, strozzapreti with marinara sauce, mixed fried Adriatic seafood, and the famous giant pan. Every evening there will be live music, and on festival days, boat trips in the lagoon among the farms will return (booking required).
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the schedule of musical evenings and boat trip times, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Goro in the weeks preceding the event (Facebook channels and direct contacts).
