The radicchio of the sandy lands of Mesola on the table, between gastronomy and tradition
In Bosco Mesola, a hamlet of the Municipality of Mesola in the province of Ferrara, radicchio is no ordinary vegetable: it grows in the sandy soils of Mesola, a stone's throw from the Gran Bosco della Mesola and the Delta del Po, and gives life to one of the area's symbolic products. From this agricultural vocation, the Bosco Mesola Radicchio Festival was born, organized by the Pro Loco Bosco APS Tourist Association, which every autumn attracts visitors from all over the province and beyond.
The heart of the event is the large covered and heated gastronomic stand set up in Piazza E. Bullega: a solution designed to welcome guests in all weather, typical of autumn festivals in the Ferrara region. Here, radicchio is presented in dozens of preparations, from appetizers to desserts, in a menu that changes little from year to year and is now an eagerly awaited event for local gourmets.
Around the gastronomy revolves a rich program of entertainment: live music shows, an artisan and commercial market, traditional tombola (bingo) with rich prizes, a funfair for the little ones, an exhibition of vintage agricultural machinery, and photographic exhibitions. A formula that combines flavors, community, and popular tradition, in the authentic spirit of village festivals.
Founded in 2003, the festival has become a benchmark for the enogastronomic autumn of eastern Emilia-Romagna over the years. In March 2026, it received the prestigious EPLI "Sagra d'Eccellenza" mark, awarded by the Ente Pro Loco Italiane for its authenticity, valorization of local traditions, and promotion of enogastronomic excellence: the award ceremony took place at Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome. A recognition that rewards the work of volunteers and confirms Bosco Mesola radicchio among the must-try typical products of the Delta del Po.
The 2026 edition of the Bosco Mesola Radicchio Festival runs from Friday, October 2nd to Monday, October 5th in the covered and heated gastronomic stand in Piazza E. Bullega. Open for lunch (12:00 PM) and dinner (7:00 PM), without reservations. This is the first edition to bear the national EPLI "Festival of Excellence" mark, obtained in March 2026. Alongside the menu, the program features live music, an artisan and commercial market, tombola with rich prizes, an exhibition of vintage agricultural machinery, photographic exhibitions, and a funfair for families.
Four days (Friday, October 2nd - Monday, October 5th) with the covered and heated gastronomic stand open for lunch (12:00 PM) and dinner (7:00 PM).
