The widespread food and wine festival in the Monferrato hills, in Serralunga di Crea
Golosaria Monferrato is the touring food and wine event that transforms the Monferrato hills into a vast trail of taste every spring, spanning about forty municipalities across the provinces of Alessandria and Asti. Conceived by Paolo Massobrio and the Golosario team, and organized in partnership with the Gran Monferrato Tourist Consortium, the festival serves as the spring preview to the renowned autumn Golosaria Milano event. The town of Serralunga di Crea, in the province of Alessandria and the heart of Piedmont, is one of the most evocative stops thanks to its Sacro Monte di Crea, a site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 2026 edition, celebrating the festival's twentieth anniversary, takes place on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, under the theme "Taste, home, and the hills". The format remains that of a widespread festival: guided tours with tastings, gourmet markets, open wineries, farms, and local restaurants, as well as performances and walks through the vineyards. The towns are grouped into ten thematic itineraries built on the principle of territorial continuity, inviting visitors to explore the hills from one stop to the next.
Serralunga di Crea is part of Itinerary 3, alongside Camino, Ponzano Monferrato, Odalengo Piccolo, and Moncalvo. In the village, on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, the Ristorante di Crea offers a line of take-away lunches designed for outdoor enjoyment, featuring "La Muletta" focaccia, focaccia with Fassona pastrami, and picnic baskets to take into the park; the restaurant remains open for lunch and on Saturday evening. Nearby is Crea, l'Antica Bottega, a shop selling the restaurant's specialties and other local delicacies.
The Serralunga di Crea stop is inseparable from its setting: the Sacro Monte di Crea Special Reserve protects forty hectares of woodland and a series of devotional chapels with a remarkable artistic heritage. The climb to the Belvedere and the Sanctuary offers one of the most expansive views over Monferrato, perfect for a sunset toast. The combination of spirituality, hilly landscapes, and local cuisine makes this stop one of the most complete experiences of the entire festival.
Serralunga di Crea can be reached by car from Casale Monferrato (about 20 minutes) or from Asti; the most convenient motorway exit is Casale Monferrato on the A26. The reference railway station is Casale Monferrato, from which you can continue by car or bus.
Participation in the widespread festival is generally free; some activities, tastings, and lunches at restaurants may require reservations and have a cost. We recommend checking the official program at golosaria.it and contacting the Ristorante di Crea in advance.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking on the Sacro Monte and set aside time to visit the Sanctuary and the Belvedere.
