About Giro d'Italia in Aosta

The Giro d'Italia returns to Valle d'Aosta with a great mountain stage starting from Piazza Chanoux, in the heart of Aosta, and concluding uphill in Pila, above Gressan. A very tough route made of relentless climbs and descents, crossing dozens of Aosta Valley municipalities and offering one of the most spectacular finishes of the Pink Race. A day of celebration for the entire region, with side events and thousands of fans along the roads.

The Pink Race in the heart of Valle d'Aosta

The Giro d'Italia, the historic stage race of professional cycling organized by RCS Sport, once again stops in Valle d'Aosta with a high mountain fraction starting from Aosta and finishing uphill in Pila, the resort above the municipality of Gressan. The start is set in Piazza Émile Chanoux, a stone's throw from the Arch of Augustus and the Roman monuments of the regional capital.

A very tough route

The stage is described as an almost uninterrupted sequence of climbs and descents, with no real recovery phases. The route winds through the Valpelline and the mountains around Aosta, with several King of the Mountains (Gran Premi della Montagna) — including Saint-Barthélemy, Doues, Lin Noir, and Verrogne — before the final ascent to Pila from the Gressan side, with challenging gradients. The finish in Pila, at about 1,800 meters altitude near the new cable car station, represents one of the most evocative finish lines of the race.

A celebration for the entire region

The passage of the Giro d'Italia is an event that involves the entire Aosta Valley community: the route crosses numerous municipalities in the region and attracts thousands of fans along the roads and on the climbs. Side initiatives, such as the event Aosta Cuore in Rosa, spring up around the race, enlivening the city during the event days. For Aosta and for Valle d'Aosta, it is an opportunity for national and international visibility, as well as a great popular celebration of sport.
