Four days of board games, tournaments, and a giant game library in the center of Aosta
GiocAosta is the festival of games that every year, at the beginning of August, transforms the heart of Aosta into an immense open-air play area. Founded in 2009 and organized by the Aosta Iacta Est APS association, the event is entirely free and attracts enthusiasts and families from all over Italy. The 2025 edition recorded over 40,000 active participants in four days, more than 10,000 loans from the game library, and over 400 volunteers.
The heart of GiocAosta is the large game library, with over 3,000 board games available for free loan (a collection weighing over two and a half tons). Alongside board games, the city hosts tournaments, giant games, live role-playing games, video games, puzzles, modeling, treasure hunts, and word games. Piazza Chanoux and the city streets fill with tables and games that continue late into the night.
For four days, GiocAosta enlivens not only Piazza Chanoux but also various spaces in the center of the capital of the Valle d'Aosta region, with a dedicated app allowing attendees to consult the program and book individual activities. The event is now a fixed fixture on the Aosta Valley's summer calendar and a national benchmark for board game culture, successfully combining fun, social interaction, and the promotion of the city's historic center.
The 2026 edition of GiocAosta, the eighteenth (the event's "coming of age"), is confirmed from Friday, August 7 to Monday, August 10, 2026. The chosen theme is cinema, with the slogan "Ciak, si gioca!" (Action, Let's Play!). The event confirms the large game library with over 3,000 board games available for free loan and introduces numerous new features.
Among the novelties announced for 2026: a team word game competition, a boat race along a city stream, a couples' tournament of "Gino Pilotino", a new Pandemic tournament, a Twister Deathmatch with 30 participants, and a large invisible maze in front of the Cathedral. There will also be space for new committee games (Blood on the Clocktower, Salem), tables dedicated to Mah Jong, and collaborations with the Astronomical Observatory, LevelUp gaming, and Ludimus.
Edition theme: "Ciak, si gioca!" (Cinema).
The detailed program, with times and locations for individual events, will be finalized and published on the official website and app in the weeks preceding the event.
Aosta is reachable by car via the A5 Turin-Aosta highway (Aosta exit) and by train to Aosta station, just a few minutes from the city center where the event takes place.
Four days at the beginning of August. Admission and game loans are free. It is recommended to download the official app to consult the program and book tournaments.
Many activities take place outdoors: it's useful to bring a sun hat and, for evening games, a sweatshirt.
