Giaveno's May Day celebration: a blend of commerce, rural tradition, and local delicacies
May 1st has always been a highly anticipated date in Giaveno, a lively town in the Val Sangone area of the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. On this day, the town center turns into a large open-air market thanks to an event that actually hosts two: the Spring Trade Fair and the Agricultural Fair. Together, they attract thousands of visitors from across the Turin area, drawn by the festive atmosphere and the wide variety of offerings.
The Spring Trade Fair winds through the streets of Giaveno's historic center: dozens of stalls and exhibitors offer everything from clothing and accessories to footwear, jewelry, homeware, gardening tools, as well as flowers, plants, and food products. It is an itinerary designed for shopping and discovery, transforming squares and alleys into one large commercial promenade.
The Agricultural Fair comes to life on Via Teresa Marchini, offering a true journey into rural tradition and local production. Here, visitors will find typical local agri-food productsโcheeses, cured meats, honey, preserves, and winesโalongside nurseries, displays of vintage tractors and agricultural machinery, craft beer stalls, and street food options. The agricultural section highlights the primary sector of the Val Sangone and provides a meeting point for producers, farms, and the public.
Organized by the Municipality of Giaveno, the Spring Fair is a tradition deeply rooted in the community, successfully blending commercial activity with the spirit of a Piedmontese folk festival. Admission is free, making it the perfect day trip to combine shopping, good food, and the discovery of rural traditions at the foot of the Cottian Alps.
On Friday, May 1st, 2026, Giaveno renewed its traditional spring appointment. In the historic center, the Spring Trade Fair filled the streets with stalls dedicated to clothing, accessories, homeware, gardening tools, flowers, and plants. On Via Teresa Marchini, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Agricultural Fair offered typical local products, nurseries, vintage tractors, craft beer, and street food, with free entry for everyone.
