The Fusoloppet, a Romagna running classic

The Fusoloppet is one of the most beloved half marathons in the Romagna running scene. It takes place every year in February in Fusignano, a small municipality in the province of Ravenna nestled in the countryside of the Bassa Romagna, in Emilia-Romagna. For over forty years, the race has marked the symbolic opening of the road racing season, attracting runners from all over the region and beyond.

A race born from snow

The event's curious name is not accidental: it derives from the inspiration of the Vasaloppet, the famous Swedish cross-country ski race, which impressed the first organizers linked to the Fusignano Ski Club. From that idea, transplanted to the Romagna plain where snow is rare, a running race was born destined to become a fixture on the winter calendar.

Three formats for everyone

The Fusoloppet offers multiple routes designed for every type of participant:

• Competitive Half Marathon over the official distance of 21.097 km, reserved for competitive athletes;
• Recreational Walk of about 8 km, open to everyone;
• Family Run of 3.8 km, a shorter route dedicated to families and children.

The start and finish are set in Piazza Arcangelo Corelli, in the historic center of Fusignano, where registrations, final refreshments, and awards ceremonies are concentrated.

Sport and solidarity

The event is organized by the Fusignano Avis Running Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Fusignano, Auser, UISP, and AGIS, with municipal patronage. The link with AVIS and AIDO is central: in Piazza Corelli, stands are set up to promote blood and organ donation, underscoring the race's spirit of solidarity. Dozens of volunteers staff the course and manage participant reception.

The Fusoloppet is part of the UISP Road Running Championship and has been one of the most attended events in the Ravenna area for years, with over a thousand registered participants in each edition.
