About FuoriLuogo

FuoriLuogo – Theatre outside the theatre is the distributed festival of Sogliano al Rubicone, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, which brings scenic narration out of the theatre hall and into community centres, village halls, and unexpected places in the hamlets of the Rubicone Valley. Three events dedicated to the most experimental languages and new forms of theatrical storytelling, often in the Romagnolo dialect, to build a true territorial theatre community. Promoted by the Elisabetta Turroni Municipal Theatre, it is the travelling heart of the season linked to Prova d'Attore.

Theatre that leaves the theatre

In Sogliano al Rubicone, a small inland municipality in the province of Forlì-Cesena, the festival FuoriLuogo – Theatre outside the theatre is a project that overturns the very idea of a stage. Instead of bringing spectators into the hall, theatre goes out to reach people: community centres, parish halls, museums, restaurants, and unconventional spaces in the hamlets become storytelling venues. It is a practice in the spirit of distributed theatre, designed to fuel and consolidate a concrete and affective dimension of a theatre community along the Rubicone Valley.

A festival in the territory

FuoriLuogo focuses on scenic narration, often entrusted to the Romagnolo dialect, and dialogues closely with the historic Prova d'Attore season of the Elisabetta Turroni Municipal Theatre. Each event chooses a different location in the Sogliano area—from Santa Maria Riopetra to Ponte Uso, and the main town—transforming everyday spaces into opportunities for meeting, listening, and storytelling. The limited capacity of these venues makes each evening intimate and close-up, a choice that is an integral part of the artistic proposal.

Languages and protagonists

The festival intertwines narration, live music, and dialect poetry, highlighting voices and authors from the Romagna region. It ranges from popular storytelling vigils to scenic readings accompanied by saxophone, to poetic-musical performances in dialect. It is a programme that focuses on the most experimental languages and new forms of storytelling, in constant dialogue between word, sound, and local memory.

Why it's worth the trip

For those visiting Emilia-Romagna away from the most famous destinations, FuoriLuogo is an authentic way to discover the culture of the Rubicone Valley. Not a large festival for thousands of spectators, but an experience of proximity where theatre becomes a collective village ritual again, in the heart of the province of Forlì-Cesena.

FuoriLuogo — edition 2026

The 9th edition of FuoriLuogo 2026 brought three events of distributed theatre to the hamlets of Sogliano al Rubicone, featuring popular narration, scenic readings with live saxophone, and dialect poetry. A journey dedicated to experimental languages and new forms of storytelling, in unconventional venues in the Rubicone Valley.

The ninth edition of FuoriLuogo – Theatre outside the theatre was spread across three events between February and April 2026, dedicated to the most experimental languages and new forms of scenic narration. As is tradition, the performances reached various locations in the Sogliano territory, alternating popular narration, live music, and Romagnolo dialect poetry. The festival, promoted by the Elisabetta Turroni Municipal Theatre, confirmed its vocation for proximity theatre, with evenings hosted in small-capacity venues to ensure a close relationship between artists and the audience.
