Cesena's literary festival between the Malatestiana Library and the historic center
La bellezza delle parole is the literary event that animates the heart of Cesena every year, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. Promoted by the Municipality of Cesena and produced by the Babel agency, the festival has established itself as one of Romagna's most anticipated cultural events: for three days, the city becomes a grand literary stage where leading national and international writers meet the public.
The festival's strength also lies in its venues. The meetings take place in the city's symbolic locations:
Each edition proposes a thematic journey built around words themselves: each author is assigned a term — desire, freedom, community, elegance, solitude — which becomes the key to their dialogue with the public. Words thus reveal themselves to be much more than simple tools: they are keys, maps, and talismans capable of revealing inner worlds and connecting readers and writers in a shared experience.
Alongside the main program, the La bellezza delle parole OFF section disseminates the festival into the city's bookstores in the days preceding the main events, with presentations, author dialogues, and workshops. It's the festival's way of involving the entire community of readers and independent booksellers in the area.
Almost all events are free admission and do not require booking, in line with the festival's aim to make culture accessible. Over the years, the event has hosted renowned authors such as Daria Bignardi, Nicola Lagioia, Walter Veltroni, Elena Stancanelli, Catherine Dunne, and Teresa Ciabatti, confirming its status as a benchmark for those who love books and stories.
The new edition of the literary festival in Cesena is confirmed for October 9-11, 2026, still promoted by the Municipality of Cesena and curated by the Babel agency. The meetings will once again take place in the city's symbolic spaces — the Malatestiana Library, the Bonci Theatre, the Eliseo Cinema, and the Sozzi Hall of the Palazzo del Ridotto — with the usual thematic journey built word by word.
The detailed program, with the list of guest authors and the schedules of individual meetings, will be announced by the organization in the weeks preceding the event. As every year, the La bellezza delle parole OFF section, spread across the city's bookstores in the days leading up to the main festival, is also expected.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including guest authors, guiding words, and meeting schedules, will be announced by the organization in the weeks preceding the festival.
The usual structure includes author meetings spread over three days between the Malatestiana Library (Great Hall), Bonci Theatre, Eliseo Cinema, and Sozzi Hall of the Palazzo del Ridotto, alongside the La bellezza delle parole OFF section in the city's bookstores.
Three days of literary encounters in Cesena's historic venues, featuring major names in Italian and international fiction and a thematic journey built around words. Free admission for most events.
Cesena is easily reachable by train (Cesena station on the Bologna–Rimini line) and by car via the A14 motorway, Cesena exit. The festival venues are all located in the historic center, a short distance from each other and reachable on foot.
Most events are free admission and do not require booking, except for some events in the theatre. For limited-capacity events and guided city tours, advance booking is recommended.
