The spring market in Sluderno, Vinschgau Valley
In the heart of the Upper Vinschgau, the Frühlingsmarkt in Sluderno/Schluderns is one of the most anticipated events of the year for both locals and visitors exploring this sunny valley in South Tyrol. Every year, on the second Saturday of May, the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) transforms into a vibrant, colourful open-air market, symbolically marking the start of the season at the foot of Churburg Castle.
The Spring Market is, above all, a celebration of flowers and plants, the undisputed stars of the stalls that brighten the square in preparation for summer and the gardening season. Alongside nurserymen, the stalls offer the very best of local gastronomy: speck, alpine cheeses, seasonal vegetables, preserves, and homemade products. There is also a focus on craftsmanship, with handmade sewn items and artisanal goods, while the scent of grilled chicken accompanies the morning for those stopping for a bite to eat.
The market is designed with families in mind: creative workshops for children are held throughout the morning, ensuring a pleasant experience for all. The day is accompanied by music, which adds to the festive atmosphere typical of local spring markets in the region.
A special highlight is the free guided tour of the village with Gabi: the meeting point is at 12:30 in front of the Vuseum, the civic museum of Sluderno, for a one-hour journey discovering the history and curiosities of the village.
The Frühlingsmarkt is part of the long tradition of annual markets (Jahrmärkte) in the Upper Vinschgau. Together with the famous Georgimarkt in Malles and other seasonal events, it serves as a meeting point for producers, artisans, and residents of neighbouring villages. Located in the municipality of Sluderno, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (Trentino-South Tyrol), the market is an excellent opportunity to discover this bilingual mountain corner, where South Tyrolean traditions and the genuine flavours of the valley intertwine.
The 2026 Spring Market in Sluderno took place on Saturday, May 9, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz). As per tradition, the stalls offered flowers and plants, speck, cheeses, seasonal vegetables, homemade products, and handicrafts, with grilled chicken available for those stopping for lunch. Creative workshops were provided for children, while music accompanied the morning. At 12:30 PM, a free guided tour of the village was held with Gabi, starting in front of the Vuseum and lasting about an hour. Admission was free.
Sluderno is located in the Upper Vinschgau, in the Province of Bolzano. By car, it can be reached via the SS40 Stelvio road; from Merano, follow the SS38 and then the SS40 towards Malles. By train, the Vinschgau railway line (Merano-Malles) stops at the Sluderno station, a short distance from the centre.
The market is held in the Town Hall Square from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Admission is free, as is the guided tour of the village, which meets at 12:30 PM in front of the Vuseum.
Arriving in the morning allows you to find the best selection of flowers and local products. The village of Sluderno is also worth visiting for the nearby Churburg Castle, one of the best-preserved manors in South Tyrol.
