Three days in the heart of the Canavese region, featuring sweet fried semolina, morenic wine, and local traditions.
In the heart of the Canavese, just outside the Metropolitan City of Turin, the small town of Cuceglio dedicates three days each spring to its most beloved specialty: fritüra dusa. The Fritüra Dusa and Morenic Wine Festival has become a highly anticipated event that transforms the town into a vibrant, welcoming village filled with ancient flavors, music, and traditional Piedmontese customs.
Fritüra dusa is a sweet fried semolina, served hot and crispy. It is a simple, genuine preparation rooted in the peasant cuisine of the Canavese. In 2018, it was officially recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of the Piedmont region, a seal that protects its history and deep connection to the territory. In Cuceglio, this dessert has become a true symbol of local identity, so much so that the town officially bears the title of "Town of Fritüra Dusa".
The fritüra dusa is best enjoyed with morenic wine, produced on the glacial hills that define the Canavese landscape. During the festival, stalls and tastings hosted by local wineries offer visitors the chance to discover this oenological excellence, creating a pairing that highlights the authentic flavors of the region.
For three days, Cuceglio comes alive with food stalls, markets featuring local products and handicrafts, musical entertainment, and events dedicated to Canavese traditions. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Cuceglio, with the support of the Metropolitan City of Turin, and brings the entire community together in a spirit of hospitality and conviviality that lies at the heart of the festival.
Cuceglio is a small town in the Province of Turin, nestled in the green morenic hills of the Canavese, an area rich in castles, lakes, and historic villages. Visiting the festival is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic part of Piedmont, far from the beaten tourist paths, where food and wine traditions remain vibrant and deeply rooted.
