The savory fritter festival in the heart of the Langa Astigiana
In the heart of the Langa Astigiana, the small town of Cessole, in the Province of Asti, preserves one of the most authentic gastronomic traditions in Piedmont: the Frittelle Festival. For decades, on the third Sunday of May, the village transforms into a large festive hub centered around a simple yet irresistible specialty: the savory Cessole fritters, described by the organizers themselves as "delicious, unique, and inimitable."
From the early hours of the morning, Pro Loco volunteers prepare the dough and begin frying. Starting at 10:00 AM and continuing throughout the day, the fritters are distributed along the village streets, accompanied by local wines. We are, after all, in the heart of the Moscato and great Piedmontese red wine region, and the pairing of hot fritters with a glass of local wine is one of the pleasures that draws many visitors from neighboring towns every year.
The Frittelle Festival is much more than just a food fair. Throughout the day, the historic center hosts music and dancing, entertainment for children, craft exhibitions, and various market stalls. In the Pro Loco hall and along the village streets, visitors can admire artisanal works, photography exhibitions, and displays of local traditions, from sewing to patchwork. There is also the opportunity to discover the most charming corners of the town, such as the historic Erboristeria Negro, on a journey to uncover the treasures of Cessole.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Cessole in collaboration with the municipal administration, the festival is the result of the hard work of many volunteers and represents one of the most cherished moments of the year for the community. For those visiting the Langa Astigiana in spring, it is the perfect opportunity to savor a local product and experience the authentic atmosphere of a Piedmontese village festival.
