The summer festival celebrating fried zucchini flowers on the hills of San Michele a Torri, in Scandicci
The Fried Zucchini Flower Festival takes place in San Michele a Torri, a hillside village in the municipality of Scandicci, in the province of Florence, Tuscany. Organized by the Circolo SOMS-UISP of San Michele a Torri, it is one of the most recognizable summer festivals in the Florentine area. Established in the late 1990s, it reached its 26th edition in 2026, a testament to a tradition deeply rooted in the community.
The festival's signature dish is the fried zucchini flower, one of the most prized ingredients of the Tuscan summer, prepared here according to a beloved traditional recipe. It is served in two versions: the simple, golden-crisp classic, and the version stuffed with cheese and anchovies. Most of the flowers are sourced from local farms on the hills of San Michele a Torri, ensuring freshness and an authentic connection to the land.
Alongside the zucchini flowers, the stalls offer other traditional Tuscan specialties:
The kitchen is run by club volunteers, and everything takes place outdoors on a panoramic lawn with beautiful views of the Scandicci hills.
The festival is much more than just a culinary event: it is a meeting point for the local village and the entire Scandicci area, drawing thousands of visitors over its two-weekend run. The atmosphere is that of a typical Tuscan village feast, filled with long tables, lively conversation, and genuine food, all set in a natural landscape just a few kilometers from Florence.
The 2026 edition, the 26th, takes place over two weekends: Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21, and Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, 2026. The stalls of the UISP Club in San Michele a Torri open at 5:30 PM on the panoramic hills of Scandicci.
The star of the show is the fried zucchini flower, offered in both the simple version and the one stuffed with cheese and anchovies, accompanied by Tuscan cold cuts, crostini, Pecorino di Tuscania, and local hillside wines (Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone and Chianti Colli Fiorentini).
Details regarding any musical evenings or entertainment will be announced by the Club on its social media channels in the days leading up to the festival.
