Exhibitions of the Fotografia Europea OFF Circuit at the Town Hall of Cadelbosco di Sopra
Every spring, while Reggio Emilia transforms into the Italian capital of photography with Fotografia Europea, the festival promoted by the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, its OFF Circuit extends well beyond the city limits. It is a widespread and free program that invades shops, courtyards, professional studios, private homes, and – as in Cadelbosco di Sopra – institutional venues, turning the entire urban and provincial fabric into an exhibition map. The Town Hall of Cadelbosco di Sopra, in the province of Reggio Emilia, thus becomes a full-fledged part of the In Provincia and Off@School sections of the event.
The Town Hall, located in Piazza della Libertà 2, hosts the photographic projects created in the local schools. The protagonists are the youngest children from the "Piero Varini" Municipal Nursery School and the students of the Comprehensive Institute of Cadelbosco di Sopra, who reinterpret the theme chosen by the curators of Fotografia Europea each year through workshops conducted during the school year. This is not a simple exhibition of drawings: the children work with cameras, analogue printing, light overlays, and pictorial interventions, discovering that the image is a language to be handled and reinvented.
Fotografia Europea is one of the most important photography events in Italy and Europe: its main venues in Reggio Emilia exhibit international artists, while the OFF Circuit gives a voice to emerging photographers, associations, collectives, and schools. The Cadelbosco di Sopra stop perfectly embodies this participatory spirit: bringing photographic art into the everyday life of a municipality in Emilia-Romagna and entrusting it to the gaze of its youngest inhabitants.
The exhibition is traditionally held in the weeks of the festival, between the end of April and the beginning of summer, with an opening ceremony open to the public. Admission is free and can be visited during the Town Hall's opening hours. This is a simple and free opportunity to discover how a major cultural event can take root in a small town in the Reggio Emilia plain.
The XXI edition of Fotografia Europea had the theme "Ghosts of the Everyday", an invitation to explore what remains beyond appearances, what persists in memory. In Cadelbosco di Sopra, the theme was interpreted by local schools with two projects exhibited in the municipal hall of Piazza della Libertà.
The inauguration took place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM, and the exhibitions remained open until June 6, 2026, with free admission. This stop was part of the In Provincia and Off@School sections of the OFF Circuit, dedicated to local realities and educational institutions.
