The Carpi science festival born from high schools
Carpinscienza is the science festival of Carpi, a city in the province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna. Its uniqueness is rooted in its origins: it is not organized by a large entity or foundation, but by five local high schools — Liceo Fanti, Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore A. Meucci, IPSIA Vallauri, Istituto Tecnico Industriale Leonardo da Vinci, and Centro di Formazione Professionale Nazareno. Together, they build a path of discovery and promotion of science and technological innovation each year, aimed at students of all levels, but open to the entire community.
For about ten days, the historic center of Carpi transforms into a large, widespread laboratory. The program alternates evening conferences with nationally renowned disseminators, morning meetings dedicated to schools, hands-on workshops for children and families, and shows that blend science, theater, and entertainment. The historic venues for the event are the Teatro Comunale, Cinema Corso, Piazzale Re Astolfo, Auditorium San Rocco, and the city's school institutes, which open their classrooms to the public.
Each edition of Carpinscienza is guided by a theme that serves as a common thread for all events. Over the years, the festival has addressed major questions of contemporary science, from evolution to space geopolitics, from medical research to microbiology. The 2025 edition, titled "Traces", celebrated the festival's tenth anniversary; the 2026 edition, the eleventh, chose the theme "Constellations" and takes place from September 21 to 30.
Carpinscienza's stated goal is to make scientific knowledge accessible to all: students, families, the curious, and enthusiasts. Most events are free and aimed at a broad audience, with particular attention to young people. Over the years, it has become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Carpi autumn and an example of how dissemination can emerge from the grassroots, within school classrooms.
The 2026 edition of Carpinscienza, the eleventh, has the theme "Constellations" and takes place in Carpi from September 21 to 30, 2026. As every year, the festival is promoted by the five local high schools (Liceo Fanti, IIS A. Meucci, IPSIA Vallauri, ITI Da Vinci, CFP Nazareno) and offers evening conferences with disseminators, morning meetings for schools, workshops, and shows in the historic center venues.
The theme and dates of the event are confirmed, while the detailed program with the names of the speakers and schedules will be published later on the official website and on the channels of the City of Carpi and VisitCarpi. Most events are free admission.
