The widespread festival of contemporary theatre and performing arts in Parma
In the heart of Emilia-Romagna, Insolito Festival is one of the most original events dedicated to contemporary performing arts. Conceived and curated by the association Micro Macro ETS since 2014, the festival takes place in Parma and the surrounding municipalities of the province, distributing its performances over a long period, from the end of August to the end of October.
The distinctive feature of Insolito is that it is a widespread project: the events are not concentrated in a single location but travel through the city, connecting the center and peripheries, historic theaters, and unusual spaces. Among the venues that have hosted the showcase over the years are Lenz Teatro, the Spazio Malerba of the Civic Library, Teatro Due, Sala Santa Brigida, as well as parks, squares, and places in the province such as the Castle of Montechiarugolo.
The festival targets an intergenerational and multicultural audience, with a proposal that combines adults, young people, families, and children. The program alternates:
Behind Insolito Festival is the nomadic theatre project of Micro Macro ETS, made up of artists and professionals who share a vocation for puppet theatre, work with and for children and new audiences, and immersive and participatory formats. Over the years, the festival has hosted important companies and artists from the national and international performing scene, becoming a reference point for theatrical research in Parma and Emilia-Romagna.
Supported by the Municipality of Parma and numerous cultural partners in the area, Insolito Festival represents a precious opportunity to discover the city from a different perspective, following the performances that cross its neighborhoods and transform everyday spaces into places of artistic experience.
The 2026 edition of Insolito Festival will be held in Parma and surrounding municipalities from August 28 to October 31, 2026, as confirmed by the dates published by the organizing association Micro Macro ETS. True to its identity, the festival will again this year offer a widespread journey through theaters, city spaces, and unusual locations, dedicated to the languages of contemporary theatre, dance, and performing arts.
The program, aimed at an intergenerational audience, will alternate performances by Italian and international artists, original creations by the association, workshops, and forms of participatory theatre. The detailed program — with the titles of the performances, schedules, venues, and ticket information — will be released by the organization in the weeks preceding the start of the showcase. It is advisable to consult the official website and social media channels of Insolito Festival for updates.
Parma is easily reachable by train (Parma station on the Milan-Bologna line, High Speed) and by car via the A1 motorway (Parma exit) and the A15. Performances take place in various locations in the city and province: it is advisable to check the venue each time on the official program.
