The great summer fair in the historic center of Fornovo di Taro
Fornovo Fair is one of the most cherished events in the summer calendar of the province of Parma. Every year, in the first days of August, the historic center of Fornovo di Taro, in Emilia-Romagna, comes alive for several days of celebration that attract thousands of visitors from Valtaro, the Parma plain, and neighboring provinces. The fair occupies the main squares and streets of the town, including Piazza Mercato, Piazza Pizzi, and Piazza Matteotti, transforming them into a continuous route of stalls, shows, and attractions.
Born as an ordinary public market, the event has maintained its dual nature over time: on one hand, the large market, with food and non-food goods, typical products, clothing, crafts, and objects; on the other, a rich program of events that makes it much more than just a commercial appointment. The fair is organized by the Pro Loco of Fornovo di Taro with the support of the Municipality and has reached over forty editions, a sign of a deep bond with the local community.
The Fornovo Fair program unfolds over several days, typically from afternoon until late evening. Among the events that liven up the celebration are:
The gastronomic aspect is not forgotten, with street food stands and local specialties that allow visitors to savor Parmesan cuisine outdoors. The event traditionally concludes with a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the sky over the Taro River, bidding farewell to another edition of the fair.
Thanks to the variety of offerings, Fornovo Fair is an event designed for all ages: families, children, young people, and tradition enthusiasts will find an occasion for meeting and celebration in the heart of summer. For those visiting Valtaro, it is also an opportunity to discover Fornovo di Taro, an ancient village linked to the famous Battle of Fornovo in 1495 and dominated by the beautiful Romanesque Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta.
The 2026 edition of Fornovo Fair confirms the summer tradition of Fornovo di Taro, with the fair animating the historic center from August 1 to 4. As every year, the large market, Luna Park, street food stands, and evening shows are expected, along with the most beloved events such as the medieval historical procession, the Vesparaduno, and the grand finale with fireworks.
The complete program, with schedules and details for each day, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Fornovo di Taro shortly before the event.
Fornovo di Taro is located along the Strada Statale 62 della Cisa, about 13 km from Parma. It is easily reachable by car from the A15 Parma-La Spezia motorway (Fornovo exit). By train, Fornovo station is served by the regional lines Parma-La Spezia and Parma-Borgotaro. The nearest airport is Giuseppe Verdi Airport in Parma.
Access to the fair and market is free. The stalls and Luna Park attractions liven up the historic center from the afternoon until late evening. Some shows and events may have specific participation requirements.
It is advisable to reach the center on foot after parking in the external areas, given the closure of many streets to traffic. For updated information on dates and the program, it is useful to follow the social media channels of the Pro Loco of Fornovo and the Municipality.
