About Antiques of Cortemaggiore

Every first Sunday of the month (excluding January), the Renaissance historic center of Cortemaggiore, in the province of Piacenza, transforms into a large open-air market dedicated to antiques, modern design, collectibles, and vintage items. Established in 1988, the event attracts over 180 exhibitors from all over Italy to the streets and arcades of the town. Free admission, an atmosphere of yesteryear, and a full day among furniture, prints, ceramics, books, and curious objects in the heart of Emilia-Romagna.

A Monthly Event in the Heart of Cortemaggiore

The Antiques and Things from Other Times Market Exhibition is one of the longest-running and most beloved events in the exhibition calendar of the province of Piacenza. Every first Sunday of the month (with the sole exception of January), the historic center of the Municipality of Cortemaggiore comes alive with stalls, exhibitors, and curious visitors, transforming streets and squares into a large open-air market. The event takes place under the characteristic arcades of the Renaissance town, offering natural shelter and one of the most evocative historical settings in Emilia-Romagna.

History: From 1988 to Today

Established in 1988, the exhibition has grown over time to become a reference point for enthusiasts of antiques, modern design, and collectibles not only in the Piacenza area but throughout Northern Italy. Today, it regularly attracts between 180 and over 200 exhibitors, from many regions, who display an ever-changing selection of items each month.

What You Can Find

Among the market stalls, you can find a wide variety of items, for all budgets and tastes:

  • Antiques: antique furniture, prints, paintings, silverware, and decorative objects;
  • Modern Design and 20th-century design;
  • Collectibles: coins, stamps, postcards, vinyl records, comic books;
  • Vintage: clothing, accessories, radios, and small vintage objects;
  • Used books, ceramics, glassware, and home curiosities.

A Renaissance Setting

Cortemaggiore is one of the most interesting "ideal cities" of the Padan Renaissance, founded at the end of the 15th century by the Pallavicino marquises. The regular layout, orderly squares, and arcades provide an ideal backdrop for the market exhibition: strolling among the exhibitors also means discovering a town of great historical and architectural value in the heart of the Piacenza Po Valley.

Admission and Atmosphere

Admission is free, and the day is perfect for a relaxed visit, between searching for bargains and discovering collector's items. The event is organized by the Cortemaggiore Tourist Association with the support of the Municipality and continues, month after month, to be one of the favorite destinations for those who love to rummage through items from yesteryear in Emilia-Romagna.
