Evenings of choral singing in the woods of Bedolpian, in memory of Storm Vaia
Forest Cant is a choral festival that brings summer evenings to life in Baselga di Pinè, in the heart of the Pinè Plateau, in the province of Trento. The event takes place in Bedolpian, a woodland area deeply marked by Storm Vaia, and was born as a tribute to the wounded nature and the community that inhabits it.
In October 2018, Storm Vaia struck the forests of Trentino with violence, felling millions of trees and forever changing the face of entire valleys. The woods of Bedolpian were also hit hard. Right here, in the years that followed, the memory of that event became an opportunity for reflection and rebirth, as evidenced by the "upside-down tree" installation created in the area. Forest Cant captures this spirit and translates it into music: through four evenings dedicated to choral singing, the memory of the loss is transformed into a collective gesture of awareness.
The festival consists of four evenings spread throughout the summer, from July 17th to August 21st. Each event features choirs from all over Trentino, bringing the repertoire of the Alpine choral tradition to the woods of Bedolpian. Participating groups include the Coro Stelune, the Coro Costalta, the Coro Soldanella of Brentonico, and the Coro Novo Spiritu. The voices intertwine with the silence of the forest, creating an intimate and evocative atmosphere, far from large stages and close to nature.
The meeting point for the concerts is at 8:30 PM at the Ristorante La Capannina, a landmark in the Bedolpian area. For those who wish to fully experience the event, food and drinks are available starting from 6:30 PM: an opportunity to dine outdoors before being carried away by the harmonies of the choirs, with the backdrop of the Pinè Plateau woods.
Forest Cant is not just a music festival, but a moment of strong territorial identity for the community of Baselga di Pinè and the entire Trentino-Alto Adige region. The festival unites the tradition of Alpine choral singing, rooted in Trentino culture, with the environmental awareness born after Storm Vaia, offering residents and visitors evenings of great symbolic and emotional value.
