The Christmas Concert in the heart of the Mòcheni Valley

The Christmas Concert is one of the most cherished winter events in Fierozzo (Vlarötz in the Mòcheni language), a small municipality in the Mòcheni Valley, in the province of Trento, within the Trentino-Alto Adige region. In an intimate and welcoming setting, the Parish Church of Fierozzo San Felice transforms for one evening into the beating heart of the community, with a program of traditional Christmas music accompanying the Advent and holiday season.

The Coro Cantiamo con Gioia

At the heart of the event is the Coro Cantiamo con Gioia from Fierozzo, a local choral group that preserves the repertoire of traditional and popular Christmas music. The choir is a direct expression of the small Mòcheni community, one of the historic linguistic minorities of Trentino, and through song, it keeps alive a cultural heritage rooted in the Bavarian migrations toward the southern Alps starting in the 13th century.

A song that unites mountain communities

The Christmas Concert is also a moment of encounter between local choral groups. In the 2025 edition, the Coro Cantiamo con Gioia hosted the special participation of the Coro Costalta from Baselga di Pinè, in a musical dialogue that united two neighboring alpine communities. The evening, described as a true Bainightkonzert (Christmas night concert) rich in emotion and tradition, concluded with sweet and pleasant surprises offered to all those present.

The Mòcheni Valley

Fierozzo is part of the Mòcheni Valley (or Fersina Valley), a German-speaking linguistic island nestled in eastern Trentino along with the municipalities of Frassilongo, Palù del Fersina, and Sant'Orsola Terme. Here, centuries-old language, customs, and traditions are preserved, as evidenced by the museum sites of the Mòcheni Cultural Institute (Bersntoler Kulturinstitut). Attending the Christmas Concert means immersing yourself in this authentic context, where sacred and popular music becomes part of a mountain identity passed down from generation to generation.
