The Plaus second-hand market

The Flohmarkt / Second-hand Market is a local event held in Plaus, a small municipality in the Lower Vinschgau (Val Venosta) in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. With just over seven hundred inhabitants, Plaus is one of the most intimate centers in the area, nestled at the entrance of the Vinschgau valley just a few kilometers from Naturno and Merano. This intimate scale gives the market the character of a celebration created by the community, for the community.

The Pixnerhaus, the heart of the village

The market takes place at the Pixnerhaus and in its garden. This is one of the historic buildings in Plaus, a house about two centuries old that once served as a school, town hall, and farmstead simultaneously. Following a major renovation and expansion, the Pixnerhaus has become the community center for all residents, featuring a multipurpose hall, foyer, and kitchen: the ideal space to host community events like the Flohmarkt.

Woman & Kids: what you will find

The market has a specific focus, summarized by the "Woman & Kids" theme: it is dedicated to the world of women and children. Among the stalls, you will mainly find:

• autumn-winter clothing for women and children;
• decorations for the home and the colder seasons;
• toys and childcare items;
• and many other second-hand objects in good condition.

The atmosphere is typical of South Tyrolean village markets: well-kept stalls, people chatting, the chance to find a bargain, and, not least, the concrete idea of reuse and sustainability behind every item that changes hands.

A community moment

Beyond shopping, the Flohmarkt is above all an opportunity to meet. During the event, there is a refreshment corner (Speis und Trank) with food and drinks, turning the morning into a pleasant social gathering outdoors in the Pixnerhaus garden. Like many South Tyrolean association events, the market combines the aspect of reuse with a spirit of solidarity toward the community.

When and where

The market is held in late summer, on a morning in late August, within the grounds of the Pixnerhaus in the center of Plaus. It is a free-entry event, suitable for families and easy to include in a trip to the Vinschgau valley or the surroundings of Merano.
