The World Enduro Championship arrives in Custonaci, set between marble quarries and Mount Cofano
In April 2026, the town of Custonaci, located in the province of Trapani in the heart of western Sicily, became the world capital of enduro by hosting Round 1 of the Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship, the Italian GP that kicked off the world season. After fifteen years, the Enduro World Championship returned to this region, bringing a premier event of the International Motorcycling Federation to Sicily for the very first time.
The competition is the centerpiece of Onde di Sport – Spring, an event promoted by the Municipality of Custonaci with the support of the Sicilian Region (Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment). As Mayor Fabrizio Fonte explained, the vision is that a major sporting event should not be confined to the race track, but should serve as an opportunity for territorial and cultural promotion. For this reason, alongside the races, there is live music, folk performances, and a gastronomic village.
The headquarters is the Paddock set up in Contrada Santa Lucia, on Via Macallè, in the coastal area. The Moto Club Custonaci Enduro ASD has designed a technical track of approximately 45 kilometers, to be completed four times a day for nearly seven hours of daily racing, winding through the striking marble quarries, forests, and the slopes of Mount Cofano. The special tests include the AKRAPOVIC Super Test on Friday evening, the POLISPORT Extreme Test featuring natural obstacles, the GMOTO Enduro Test through woods and rocks, and the EXPOTRADE Cross Test, a fast loop where throttle control is key.
Over one hundred riders from seventeen nations are at the starting line, divided into the EnduroGP, Enduro2, Women's Enduro, Junior, and Youth classes, with numerous world champions in attendance. It is an international showcase that draws enthusiasts and curious spectators alike, attracting tens of thousands of people along the routes.
The side program brings the paddock to life from morning until night. On Friday, local schools meet the riders, while the evenings feature live music; the Gruppo Folk Cala Bukuto performs roaming shows, and the Gastronomic Village opens daily at noon, highlighting the food and wine excellence of Custonaci and the Trapani area. Admission to all areas is free, in line with the event's popular and tourist-oriented spirit.
The 2026 edition, part of Onde di Sport – Spring, brought the first round of the Enduro World Championship to Custonaci, opening on Friday, April 10 with the AKRAPOVIC Super Test and continuing on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 with races starting at 9:00 AM and awards ceremonies in the afternoon. The technical 45 km track, repeated four times daily, crossed marble quarries, forests, and the Mount Cofano area, drawing a large crowd of spectators.
On Saturday, Josep Garcia dominated the premier class ahead of Steve Holcombe and Andrea Verona; on Sunday, the overall victory went to Brad Freeman, ahead of Andrea Verona and Garcia himself. In the Women's Enduro, Martel won for the first time in history. The edition also saw the debut of the E-Enduro class on the same courses as the absolute champions.
The Contrada Santa Lucia paddock hosted the Gastronomic Village, performances by the Gruppo Folk Cala Bukuto, and evening live music (Tore Cusenza and Valerio Vox on Friday, The New Band and Juke Box Band over the weekend), in addition to meetings between local schools and the riders.
