Four fiery days in a medieval village at the foot of the Majella mountains
The Filetto Hot Chili Pepper Festival is the most anticipated event in this small village in the Municipality of Filetto, in the province of Chieti, nestled among the Abruzzo hills at the foot of the Majella. For four days in August, the charming cobblestone streets, squares, and poetic corners of the historic center turn into a grand showcase dedicated to the hot chili pepper, the iconic product of local peasant tradition.
The heart of the festival is its food and wine exhibition: numerous stalls spread across the village's four squares offer typical products and spicy dishes, ranging from Abruzzo cuisine to international flavors. Past editions have featured traditional dishes with a spicy twist, such as pizza e foje, sagne with legumes, crispelle, tripe, stew, pecora alla callara, and even spicy cannoli, all paired with local wines and craft beer. It is a true celebration of the local chili pepper and the region's culinary culture.
Beyond the food, the festival comes alive with live music in every corner of the village, evening concerts, shows, and signature events that have become trademarks, such as the election of Miss Hot Chili Pepper and live cooking demonstrations with chefs. There are also spicy-themed painting workshops and entertainment for all ages until late into the night, creating a festive atmosphere that brings the medieval village to life.
Organized by the Abruzzo Hot Chili Pepper Academy together with the Filetto Pro Loco, and sponsored by the Municipality of Filetto, the Province of Chieti, and the Abruzzo Region, the festival is now a staple of the Abruzzo summer, attracting thousands of visitors every year. For those looking to discover the hinterland of the Chieti province through good food, tradition, and joy, Filetto in August is an unmissable destination.
The 2026 edition, the nineteenth, will be held in Filetto (CH) from Thursday, August 6 to Sunday, August 9, 2026. As per tradition, the village at the foot of the Majella will host the food and wine exhibition dedicated to the hot chili pepper, with stalls spread across the village squares, typical Abruzzo dishes with a spicy twist, international cuisine, wines, and craft beer.
The evenings will be enlivened by live music in every corner of the village and the usual entertainment events, including the election of Miss Hot Chili Pepper and live cooking shows. The festival is organized by the Abruzzo Hot Chili Pepper Academy and the Filetto Pro Loco.
