The traditional June 2nd concert at the Teatro Comunale in Cossato
The Filarmonica Cossatese Concert for Republic Day is one of the most cherished events in the civic calendar of Cossato, a town in the Province of Biella, Piedmont. Every June 2nd, the historic town band performs at the Teatro Comunale di Cossato, in Piazza Elvo Tempia, to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic with a free concert open to the entire community.
The initiative goes far beyond a simple band concert: it is a true civic ceremony organized by the Municipality of Cossato together with the Filarmonica Cossatese. Alongside the musical performance, the program includes the reading of the twelve fundamental principles of the Italian Constitution, entrusted to young people from the student theater group, and the award ceremony for the Holocaust Remembrance Day competition aimed at local schools. It is a way to combine celebration with reflection on democratic values and historical memory.
The absolute star of the event is the Filarmonica Cossatese, a band ensemble deeply rooted in the town's cultural life, present at major local anniversaries such as the Feast of Saint Cecilia and the Christmas Concert. For the June 2nd concert, the group performs a program of traditional band and civic music, conducted by their director.
In recent years, Cossato has been included among the Italian municipalities involved in national celebrations for the anniversary of the Republic. The afternoon session at the theater is accompanied by an evening event outdoors, with a live broadcast of the official celebration from the Quirinale in the square, highlighting the bond between the Cossato community and the institutions of the Republic.
The 2026 edition, in the year of the 80th anniversary of the institutional Referendum, saw Cossato among the hundred Italian municipalities involved in the national celebrations. The Teatro Comunale hosted the afternoon concert by the Filarmonica Cossatese conducted by Stefano Demarta, interspersed with the reading of the fundamental principles of the Constitution by the 'I Copioni' theater group.
The ceremony included the award ceremony for the school competition linked to Holocaust Remembrance Day, while in the evening the celebration moved outdoors to Piazza A. Borrino with a live broadcast of the official celebration from the Quirinale. All events were free of charge.
