The flavours of the past in the courtyards of the village of Som la Vila, in Carnia
Some festivals are held in squares, others in houses: the Fiesta tas Corts belongs to the latter, rare category. Once a year, in August, the hamlet of Som la Vila in Ravascletto—a village in Carnia at the foot of Mount Zoncolan, in the province of Udine—throws open its inner courtyards and private homes to welcome visitors and serve, right where families once cooked for themselves, traditional dishes. The subtitle "Savôrs di una volta" (flavours of the past) tells the whole spirit of the event.
The heart of the festival is the table, and what a table: in the courtyards, you can taste mesta e busa, las agnes, cjarsons (the famous sweet-and-savoury ravioli of Carnia), polenta e frico or polenta e çuç, cartufules, radic e cjapût, and desserts passed down through generations. Each courtyard becomes a small open-air trattoria, recreating the atmosphere of Carnia of the past, made of hospitality and the simple pleasure of being together.
Along the narrow streets of the village winds the market of local products and crafts, while folk music enlivens small squares and corners of the village throughout the day. The festival starts at noon and continues until evening, often accompanied by exhibitions and displays in the preceding days. It's a perfect opportunity to discover a corner of Carnia far from mass tourist circuits, amidst stone and wood houses and the backdrop of the Carnic Alps.
Supported by the local community and the Pro Loco (local tourism board), with the patronage of the Municipality of Ravascletto, the Fiesta tas Corts is much more than a food festival: it's the way a small mountain village chooses to tell its identity, literally opening its doors. For those who want to understand what Carnia truly means, it's an unmissable stop on a Friulian summer.
In 2026 too, Som la Vila will open its courtyards and houses for the Fiesta tas Corts, confirming the formula that has made the festival one of the most authentic in Carnia: traditional cuisine served in private courtyards, a market for local products and crafts, folk music along the village streets, and a free shuttle service from the car parks of the Zoncolan cable car.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition, with the official date, will be communicated by the Pro Loco of Ravascletto in the preceding weeks. Based on recent editions, the day unfolds as follows:
In the days leading up to the festival, exhibitions and displays are often set up in the village.
