A summer of festivals, excursions, and tradition in the village of fir trees
When summer arrives, Pescopennataro, in the province of Isernia, enlivens the months of July and August with Estate Pescolana, a widespread calendar of events that celebrates one of the highest and most picturesque villages in Molise, nestled in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park and famous for its fir trees and its ancient tradition of stone carving.
The most anticipated gastronomic event is the Sagra della Scamorza e della Lesca Cincialosa, which brings the typical flavours of the Molise mountains to the town square: scamorza, a cheese symbolising the local dairy tradition, and lesca cincialosa, along with popular specialities like schiaffune and pallotte. It's an opportunity to discover the rural cuisine of Alto Molise in a festive atmosphere.
Alongside the festivals (sagre), Estate Pescolana offers a range of initiatives: guided excursions in the woods, traditional games, sport climbing, a mixed relay race (ski-roll, mountain bike, and running), a live sculpture competition and an exhibition-market of stone carving, as well as dancing evenings, open-air theatre, and a seniors' day. A programme that combines gastronomy, sport, nature, and culture, making Pescopennataro an ideal destination for a summer mountain holiday.
For summer 2026, Pescopennataro renews the Estate Pescolana, with events spread between July and August. Among the highlights: the Sagra della Scamorza e della Lesca Cincialosa with the typical flavours of the Molise mountains, guided excursions in the woods, traditional games, sport climbing, the mixed relay race, the live sculpture competition and the stone carving exhibition, as well as dancing evenings, open-air theatre, and seniors' day.
